Sri Lanka to welcome new Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott hotels in 2021

For the first time ever, Marriott will venture in the Sri Lankan hospitality industry with the addition of not one but two different hotels in the island's capital and the debut of two of the hotel chain's main brands. The new JW Marriott Colombo and the new Ritz-Carlton Colombo will open in 2021 and will be positioned right next to each other, sitting within a soon-to-be-build complex comprising high-end retail space, offices, residences, restaurants, banquet hall and even a helipad.

Sri Lanka to welcome new Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott hotels in 2021

As part of the new luxury complex being developed in the heart of Colombo, Sri Lanka is about to welcome two new luxury hotel brands to its capital.

Expected to open sometime in 2021, the new Ritz-Carlton Colombo and JW Marriott Colombo will the jewel in the crown of a mixed-use complex offering sweeping views of the Indian Ocean and comprising high-end shops, fine dining venues, luxury residences, a banquet hall, offices and a helipad.

Named “The One”, this new luxury development in the heart of Sri Lanka’s capital will boast three gleaming glass towers and will cover an area of four million square. The new JW Marriott Colombo and Ritz-Carlton Colombo will be built as twin towers, soaring some 300 metres high and adjacent to each other.

There will be a third tower that will become South Asia’s tallest at 376 metres high and spread over 92 floors, so not only will these be Sri Lanka’s newest, shiniest, most glamorous new city hotels but they’ll be sitting right next to a record-breaking beauty.

Also part of the project is a beautifully refurbished and restored heritage structure which will connect visitors to Sri Lankan history in this part of the country.

Both new Marriott properties in Colombo will set a new luxury standard in this bustling commercial city. In the case of the new Ritz-Carlton Colombo, it will offer 200 luxury guest rooms and 187 residences with the brand´s legendary exclusive service, deluxe amenities and classically elegant, timeless design with just a touch of local flair to reflect and celebrate the island´s natural beauty and culture. Ritz-Carlton will also offer guests four fine dining venues, including a specialty restaurant, a pool bar and two lounges. There´s also the hotel brand´s signature Ritz-Carlton Spa for some seriously indulging treatments.

Colombo´s new JW Marriott, on the other hand, will offer 250 modern hotel rooms as well as 218 residences on the upper floors, offering the best views of the city and the Indian Ocean beyond. The hotel will boast three restaurants as well as a lobby lounge and ample 1,870 square metres of meeting space for the hosting of parties, private dinners, business conferences, banquets and special events.

Paul Foskey, Chief Development Officer at Asia Pacific, Marriott International said of the brand´s new Sri Lankan venture:

“The Ritz-Carlton, Colombo and JW Marriott Colombo will mark Marriott International’s entry into Sri Lanka’s luxury market – a milestone achievement as we continue to increase our presence in this dynamic, rapidly growing country,”

So, it looks like this won´t be the last you´ll see of the Marriott brand in Sri Lanka, although we still have to wait for some time before both properties are ready to open in 2021.
