The luxury Jumby Bay Island Resort is undergoing its annual renovations, but this year, the project is more extensive than usual. The private-island resort will unveil its upgraded facilities when it reopens to guests this month.

The lavish resort, which is located in Antigua in the West Indies, is part of the Oetker Collection. The resort started phase 1 of its three-phase multi-million dollar refurbishments in July this year, and the second phase is currently underway.

The first phase saw the opening of The Estate House, a new gourmet fine-dining venue. The second phase involves the upgrade of public restrooms, the lobby area, the spa, the bar and a restaurant.

Patricia Anastassiadis from the Brazilian design firm Anastassiadis Arquitetos, who led the design of the refurbishments, stated:

"Delicacy, beauty, exclusive luxury are some of the adjectives that define Jumby Bay. A pearl in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, a small portion of land surrounded by waters of single-tone, fine white sand. Leather, weaves, straws, manual work with impeccable finishes brings the essence of the Oetker Collection to the design."

The Jumby Bay Veranda dining outlet is being transformed into a new nautical-themed Italian trattoria. It will include a revamped restaurant, bar, display kitchen and lounge area. The Jumby Baby Bar and Lounge also is being refurbished and will have new flooring, furniture, and a new seating area on the beach with ambient fire pits.

For leisure, there will be a new beachfront infinity pool which will be shaded by palm trees and lined with slate tiles that will blend into the surrounding environment. There will also be a new waters ports centre close to the resort, where guests can borrow paddleboards and snorkelling equipment, and they can hire out island's 45-foot custom-built catamaran.

During their stay, guests can enjoy a wide range of fun activities at Jumby Bay Resort. These include hiking and cycling along three miles of nature trails, playing tennis, working out in the fitness centre, or taking a dip in the 25-metre freshwater lap pool. There’s also Camp Jumby where children can take part in music, art and craft activities, as well as zip lining in the rainforest, beach excursions, and nature tours.

Antigua is the largest island of the twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda, which sits between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The island boasts warm aquamarine ocean waters, lush emerald forests and landscapes, and dozens of white sand palm-fringed beaches.
