Barbados Honoured as "Luxury Destination of the Year" at the Caribbean Travel Awards

Barbados has been named as the Luxury Destination of the Year at the 2017 Caribbean Travel Awards. The Caribbean island was awarded for its luxury accommodation and tropical landscapes, and the award was given to the Barbados delegation during the recent Caribbean Week in New York City. The nation was also awarded the top spot in the World category 2017 Destination Satisfaction Index at ITB Berlin earlier this year.

Barbados Honoured as "Luxury Destination of the Year" at the Caribbean Travel Awards

The Caribbean island of Barbados has been named as the Luxury Destination of the Year in the 2017 Caribbean Travel Awards. The awards, which took place during Caribbean Week in New York City recently, recognised the nation’s luxury offerings in the region.

The award was handed to the Barbados delegation by Alexander Britell, Editor-in-Chief and founder of the Caribbean Journal. The awards are chosen annually by the editorial team at Caribbean Journal.

Mr Britell, commented:

“From the new outpost of Nikki Beach to a transformation at The House, the island of Barbados continues to set a standard for luxury in the Caribbean, building on a foundation that includes everything from the world-famous Sandy Lane to one of the Caribbean capitals of fine dining.”

This is the second prestigious award that the island of Barbados has received over recent months.

“Earlier this year at ITB Berlin, Barbados was awarded the number one spot in the World category on the 2017 Destination Satisfaction Index; that was very exciting for us, and now to be awarded with the Luxury Destination of the Year on top of that just a few months later, really demonstrates the distinction of the Barbados tourism product around the world.”

Said William "Billy" Griffith, the CEO of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI).

Barbados is located in the Caribbean Sea, and is home to magnificent natural landscapes that are synonymous with the Caribbean. Tourists can relax on white sand beaches that are fringed with swaying palm trees; swim in the aquamarine, crystal clear sea; and hike up rolling hills that are teeming with exotic flora and fauna.

Holidaymakers of all ages can visit a wide range of fascinating attractions on the island. These include the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary, the Flower Forest, Andromeda Gardens, and the magnificent Harrisons Cave, a limestone cave system with stalactites, stalagmites and babbling streams.

One of Barbados’ newest luxury offerings is Nikki Beach Barbados, a beach club in Port Ferdinand, on the west coast of Barbados. Situated on a 1.4-acre site of beachfront near the heritage centre of Speightstown, the beach club is elevated and offers multiple levels so guests can enjoy the stunning sea views from all over the property.

Facilities at the club including a gourmet restaurant, a cocktail bar, a swimming pool and direct beach access with oceanfront seating. There are seven catamaran-style lounges that perch over the turquoise ocean, as well as four luxury pool beds which line the dock.
