Anantara Kihavah Maldives named world’s most instagrammable hotel

The ultra-luxury Anantara Kihavah Maldives resort has been crowned Most Instagrammable Hotel in the World in a recent contest by travel magazine Luxury Travel Advisor. The Indian Ocean island hotel won first place, with Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton hotel in the tropical Balinese town of Ubud coming second.

Anantara Kihavah Maldives named world’s most instagrammable hotel

A luxury beach resort in the Maldives’ famously-beautiful Baa Atoll has been named the world’s most instagrammable hotel in a recent online poll by US travel trade magazine Luxury Travel Advisor. Anantara Kihavah Maldives won by a sizeable margin in the first-ever Most Instagrammable Hotel in the World contest that totalled more than 121,000 votes.

The resort, which boasts rustic overwater villas costing upwards of £1000 per night surrounded by the white palm-fringed beaches and brilliant blue seas the region is famous for, received more than 45,000 votes. Photogenic features such as the underwater restaurant, and a thatched over-the-water observatory helped push it to the top of the poll.

As well as 80 private pool villas ranging from 2,800 to 30,000 square feet, the lavish resort has six dining and entertainment venues, a wine cellar, open-air cinema, dive centre and children’s club. Set within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, guests reach the tropical desert island via a 30-minute seaplane flight from the Maldives’ capital city Male and main gateway to the islands Velana International Airport.

Anantara resort’s general manager Dylan Counsel told Luxury Travel Advisor he was grateful the “unparalleled beauty of the island” had been recognized in the poll. The resort has previously won praise at the World Travel Awards for World’s Leading Underwater Restaurant and Leading Villa Resort in the Maldives.

Ritz-Carlton hotel Mandapa in the tropical town of Ubud in Bali took second place in the competition. The five-star Balinese sanctuary won just over 30,000 votes for its ornate carved wood Balinese architecture and infinity pools merging into green hillsides. As well as 60 villas and suites with private butler service, the resort’s Kul Kul Tower rises above a river with panoramic views of the surrounding stepped rice terraces and jungle.

The third and fourth placed most instagrammable hotels are both in Mexico – Hotel Matilda and Viceroy Los Cabos. Boutique-style Hotel Matilda in the historic colonial city of San Miguel de Allende has previously been credited as the best hotel in Mexico and third best hotel in the world at Conde Nast Traveller Awards 2016.

Although it won votes for its appealing visuals including an avant-garde infinity pool, cubist buildings and rugged golden beach location, Viceroy Los Cabos on Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula has not opened to the public yet and will start welcoming guests from 23 May 2018.
