Marriott Mena House re-open his doors
After investing in major refurbishment and renovation works, Marriott International has re-opened the doors of its last acquisition: the Mena House Hotel in Cairo. Set against the impressive backdrop of the Giza Pyramids, this historic palace has been restored and rebranded as one of the company's lavish hotels and is now starting to accommodate guests within its lavish rooms and suites.
Only steps away from the last-standing Ancient Wonder of the World, Mena House Hotel has recently re-opened to the public. Now operating under the Marriott brand, this historic palace is without a doubt one of Cairo’s most beautiful and luxurious venues. After undergoing extensive renovation works to upgrade its facilities, the Mena House Hotel is finally ready to welcome visitors once more.
Offering breath-taking views of the majestic Giza Pyramids, Mena House is set amid 40 acres of verdant gardens. Now that it has been refurbished and spruced up, the property boasts a total of 331 luxurious rooms and suites, with fine amenities aimed at providing guests with a memorable experience. Dining will also be a true pleasure within the renovated Mena House, with pleasant options including fresco meals at 139 Pavilion, authentic Italian flavours at Alfredo or freshly brewed coffee or herbal infusions at the Sultan Lounge.
From the excellent quality of its restaurants to its delightful services and amazing setting, the hotel was added to Marriott’s portfolio as one of its most plush and unique properties. When speaking of this exciting re-launch, Alex Kyriakidis, managing director, Middle East and Africa of Marriott International said:
“This is a significant moment and a milestone in our journey, a milestone that I am personally very excited about. With our long history in the country, a strong footprint and a robust pipeline, Egypt continue to be a strategic growth market and the key to our success in the region. Marriott Hotels has consistently pushed the boundaries to create experiences that inspire our guests. We are excited to welcome Mena House into our portfolio and offer guests a unique brand experience in this iconic location.”
Built on the site of an 1869 hunting lodge and responsible for opening Egypt's first swimming pool in 1890, the Mena House Hotel has a fascinating history. During World War I the hotel was requisitioned by Australian troops and occupied again by the Australians in 1939. Toward the end of the war, it was then converted to a hospital for wounded Australian troops.
In 2015, it was announced that Marriott International would assume management of the hotel. The hotel was renamed Marriott Mena House this year on 1st February and now joins Marriott's JW Marriott luxury division after being renamed JW Marriott Cairo Mena House and undergoing a major renovation. Marriott International, Inc. is a leading global lodging company with more than 6,000 properties in 122 countries and territories, reporting revenues of more than $17 billion in fiscal year 2016. It currently operates 19 hotels with over 7,000 rooms in Egypt across seven brands including JW Marriott, The Ritz-Carlton, Le Meridien, Marriott Hotels, Renaissance Hotels, Sheraton, and Westin.
