Construction for Beaches Antigua Hotel Due to Start in Spring 2015

The Chairman of Sandals Resorts International has announced that construction of the Beaches resort in Antigua is expected to start in spring 2015.

Gordon “Butch” Stewart said that the new Antigua hotel will be located on Long Bay and entail the conversion of the hotel group’s existing Grand Pineapple resort.

“We have started the ground work but in terms of physical work, we are looking at around April/May 2015,” Mr Stewart explained last week.

The $150 million Beaches project will have a accommodation ranging from one-bedroom to four-bedroom guest rooms and suites, plus upscale amenities including 12 gourmet restaurants, a waterpark, a cinema, an X-box lounge, and a Sesame Street programme for younger guests.

“I love Antigua,” commented Mr Stewart said. “It’s just a beautiful island with great people and I know Beaches Resorts will add to the development of the country. Already, Sandals Resorts earns more foreign currency and provides more employment than any other private company [in Antigua]. We have partnerships with taxi drivers, tour operators, shopping centres, vendors, farmers, etc. This will significantly increase with the presence of Beaches Resorts. The future of Antigua and Barbuda looks great.”

Sandals International Resorts owns and operates 15 luxury all-inclusive Caribbean hotels and resorts in tropical destinations including Jamaica, St Lucia, Antigua, The Bahamas, Turks and Caicos and Grenada under the three brands: Sandals Resorts, Beaches Resorts and Grand Pineapple Beach Resorts.

The new Beaches resort in Antigua will be the hotel group’s fifth Beaches-branded property in the Caribbean.

The twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda is situated between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and the islands are famous for their wide selection of stunning pristine pink and white sand beaches; one for every day of the year.

Tourists visiting Antigua can enjoy a wide choice of activities such as sailing, kayaking, scuba diving, snorkelling, yacht charters, hiking, tours of lush nature parks, and shopping in local markets and high end boutiques.
