Casinos could become a new attraction in Bermuda if a bill is passed by Parliament next month.

The Minister of Tourism for Bermuda, Shawn Crockwell, said that the casinos will not be stand-alone facilities but they will be part of hotels on the island and both tourists and local residents will be allowed to gamble.

Six town hall meetings are scheduled with the first taking place on 6th February. The meetings will provide an overview of casino gambling while reviewing the casino-resort model and the benefits it will bring the nation. They will also highlight the job opportunities, tourism benefits and revenue, while outlining ways to lessen the social risks associated with gambling.

"Casino gaming is not a panacea but is a much-needed amenity for our tourism product to augment our offerings and enhance our tourism infrastructure."

Explained Minister Crockwell.

He added that a recent poll in Bermuda revealed that 70 per cent of Bermudians are in favour of legalised gambling.

Located off the east coast of the United States, Bermuda is a stunning island nation in the North Atlantic Ocean. Every year, thousands of holidaymakers head to the island to relax on its famous pink sand beaches and to enjoy the sub-tropical climate.
