Abu Dhabi Sees Record Numbers of Visitors in July

Abu Dhabi holidays hit record levels in July, 2011 as hotels in the city recorded a 38 per cent increase in guest numbers. According to new figures, July saw 189,486 visitors staying in the capital of the United Arab Emirate's hotels and hotel apartments

Abu Dhabi Sees Record Numbers of Visitors in July

Abu Dhabi received a record number of guests during July, 2011 with a total of 189,486 travellers staying in the city’s hotels and hotel apartments.

Figures reveal that hotels in the capital of the United Arab Emirates saw a 38 per cent increase in tourists taking Abu Dhabi holidays during July with a 35 per cent increase in the overall total of guest nights.

The emirate saw a significant rise in regional visitors from the Gulf Cooperation Council taking holidays to Abu Dhabi, compared to the same period last year, pushing arrivals up by 98 per cent to 19,828.

Visitors from the wider Arab market increased by 44 per cent to 22,383, while European and Asian travellers taking Abu Dhabi holidays increased by 28 per cent.

The record numbers have pushed hotel occupancy levels in the city up by nine per cent to 65 per cent and overall revenue is up by six per cent to AED271 million.

The successful rise in the numbers of guests at Abu Dhabi hotels is said to be a result of a series of marketing campaigns and road shows launched by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA).

The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority was recently recognised by the World Travel Awards, who last month selected the organisation as the World’s Leading Tourist Board for the second year in a row.

Lawrence Franklin, the Strategy and Policy Director of the ADTA, said: “The regional upsurge could likely be attributed to GCC travellers opting to spend time in a destination they associate with safety for their families and with more of them choosing to holiday in July ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan when they wish to be at home with their families.”

He added: “The destination also benefitted from tactical product and promotional activities. This included across-the-board advertising and a regional road show which engaged both the GCC media and trade partners in neighbouring countries.

“We are also benefitting from increased awareness of Abu Dhabi’s offering resulting from greater product packaging in conjunction with stakeholders, such as the Etihad Airways-led Essential Abu Dhabi marketing programme, which are resonating with our expanding GCC trade partner network and the end consumer.”

The vibrant city offers a selection of attractions for visitors taking business trips or holidays in Abu Dhabi, including the stunning Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Khalifa Park, the waterfront, the Marina Mall and the Abu Dhabi Mall.
