Diners on Maldives holidays help first under-sea restaurant celebrate Fifth Anniversary

As the world's first under-sea restaurant, Ithaa, at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island celebrates its fifth anniversary the resort offers guests on Maldives holidays the chance to spend a night underwater as the restaurant is transformed into a suite.

Situated five metres below the surface of the Indian Ocean, the restaurant is encased by three five-metre wide and 125mm thick glass arches with the top of the arches sitting one metre below sea level at low tide and nearly two metres during high tide
Over the last five years, the unique restaurant has fed over 48,000 diners who have consumed over 14,235 bottles of house wine champagne. To date, 151 under-sea "Renewal of Love" ceremonies have also taken place at the distinctive restaurant.

Diners on Maldives holidays can enjoy the stunning views of brightly coloured coral reef which surrounds the restaurant and clarity of the Indian Ocean from the comfort of a dry restaurant which specialises in gourmet fusion Maldivian cuisine. Ithaa means "pearl" in the language of the Maldives, Divehi and the restaurant has established itself as a world-class restaurant for travellers on luxury Maldives holidays and honeymoons.

Guests enjoying all inclusive Maldives holidays at the Conrad Rangali Island can enjoy the fine cuisine of the restaurant during their stay and choose from a set menu made up of 23 different dishes with local spices and seasonings, spread over four courses. The luxury Maldives hotel and resort is spread over two private islands and is surrounded by miles of white sandy beaches, a lagoon and the stunning coral reef.

The award-winning resort features 79 exotic beach villas, 50 luxury water villas and 21 extravagant spa water villas with private treatment rooms. Helping the restaurant celebrate its fifth birthday were Hubert de Billy from Pol Roger, Frederic Engerer of Chateau Latour and Chef Mathieu Pacau from the famous Paris restaurant, L'Ambroisie.

Guests on their Maldives holidays will have the chance to spend a night in the underwater restaurant as staff members transform it into a luxury suite for two with a private champagne dinner as well as a romantic breakfast in bed surrounded by the wonderful marine life.
