Oman is set to get a new water park by the end of the year according to the country’s Minister of Tourism. Ahmed bin Nasser Hamad Al Mahrizi said that the new first-of its-kind attraction will open in Dhofar and will cater for families and holidaymakers.

Hawana Aqua Park is under construction on a site spanning 65,000 metres in Oman, and it is set to be a major attraction in the country. The park will have water slides, waves pools, leisure pools, a toddler’s pool, sliding swimming pools, and a main tower.

Mr Al Mahrizi, commented:

“The aqua park is a dynamic addition to the entertainment facilities of Hawana Salalah’s first-class tourism project.

“The Ministry of Tourism is always working to elevate the quality of tourism in the sultanate and has worked hand-in-hand with the private sector to realise that ambition through the development of high footfall tourism projects."

The development in Dhofar will also have a dedicated area for dining venues, and a shopping area. There will also be a large onsite car park for added convenience.

“The Hawana Aqua Park joins a variety of attractions developed following extensive research to identify touristic attractions that help solidify Salalah’s position as a fast growing prime touristic destination.”

Added Ahmed Dabbous, the CEO of Muriya, a leading property developer in Oman.

The Hawana Aqua Park is a joint project between the state-owned Oman Tourism Development Company and Orascom Development Holding in Egypt. The water park is just one of many attractions under development that will enhance the Dhofar region and transform it into a leading tourist destination in Oman.

Dhofar sits in southern Oman on the Arabian Peninsula on the border with Yemen. The region is mountainous and home to lush green landscapes, which is very different to the rest of Oman. Salalah is the capital of the Dhofar region, and the second largest city in Oman. The city is famously known as the perfume capital due to its history with producing Frankincense It’s also home to sweeping beaches, natural lagoons, soaring mountains, and unusually lush green landscapes due to the region’s heavy rainfall.
