The Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara opens in Oman

Luxury hotel brand Anantara has opened a new beach resort in southern Oman’s Salalah region. The Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara is the first resort in Salalah to offer high-end villa suites with private plunge pools.

The 136-room resort sits between a long sandy beach on the Arabian Sea and a freshwater lagoon. It is close to the historic Frankincense Trail and UNESCO world heritage site, as well as being just 15km from the airport.

Guest rooms and villas have views of the ocean, lagoon or tropical gardens. The 40 premier and deluxe rooms feature luxury furnishings, while the eight one-bedroom villas and 88 one- and two-bedroom pool villas offer personalised villa host services and separate living areas.

The resort was designed to reflect the simple sandstone architecture of Oman’s abundant coastal fortresses. The resort is landscaped with tropical gardens, dotted with no less than 750 coconut palms, plus fountains and water features.

Known for its wadis lined with frankincense trees, coconut-fringed beaches, wealth of archaeological sites and tropical greenery during the summer monsoon season, Salalah is said to be Oman’s prettiest province. Omanis escape here in the summer for holidays in the cooler climate. The Dhofar mountains form the backdrop to the resort, while Al Baleed UNESCO archaeological site is nearby.

There are three dining venues within the resort including all-day restaurant Sakalan with international cuisine and open kitchens, and Asian restaurant Mekong serving Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. Relaxed Mediterranean beach bar and restaurant Al Mina serves cocktails, barbecue food and traditional flavoured shisha water pipes.

Within the resort, there’s also a state-of-the-art fitness centre, watersports centre, tennis court, beach volleyball court and infinity pool. A separate kids and teens club caters for families while the boardroom and ballroom make the resort suitable for business meetings, conferences and small weddings. During their stay, guests can enjoy an array of activities including hiking, diving, kite surfing, fishing and sunset yoga.

Rooted in Thai philosophy with influences from Arabia, the Anantara Spa has the only hammam in Salalah and features rejuvenating treatments using local ingredients such as pomegranate, coconut and frankincense.

The resort also offers wellness programmes that are customised for each individual's lifestyle with options including weight management, revitalisation, relaxation and de-stressing, detox, general wellbeing and rejuvenation that run over three, five or seven days.

Rooms at the resort cost from £264 per night on a bed & breakfast basis. For more information, go to:
