Mara Delta Property Holding to buy Tamassa Resort in Mauritius for $40 million

Mara Delta, a listed property company, has agreed to buy the Tamassa Resort in Mauritius for $40 million. The property company has entered a non-binding agreement with Nereide, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lux Island Resorts, to buy the resort but it will be leased back to Nereide for a minimum period of 10 years and it is likely that Tamassa Resort will continue to operate as normal under Lux Island Resorts.

Mara Delta Property Holding to buy Tamassa Resort in Mauritius for $40 million

A non-binding heads of terms agreement has been signed for the acquisition of the Tamassa Resort in Mauritius. Mara Delta Property Holding has entered into the agreement with Nereide, a 100 percent subsidiary of Lux Island Resorts, to purchase the luxury resort for US$40 million.

The acquisition is pending subject to approval from the Board of Investment of Mauritius as well as other conditions but if it goes through, Mara Delta will lease the resort back to Nereide for an initial 10-year period. Mara Delta said that Lux Island Resorts would provide a guarantee for lease payments over the duration of the rental period for the Tamassa Resort. Lux Island Resorts is one of the largest hotel chains in Mauritius, and it is worth around $228.5 million.

The money from the sale of Tamassa Resort will go towards paying off Nereide’s bank debt. The sale of the resort will also help finance the Merville Beach hotel project in Grand Bay, which will be transformed into a luxury five-star resort called LUX Grand Bay.

Tamassa Resort is located in Bel Ombre on the south west of Mauritius, set against a backdrop of mountains and sugarcane fields. The all-inclusive resort has an array of accommodation options including rooms with access to the beach, family rooms, and rooms with balconies and sea views. In-room amenities include air conditioning, iPod docking stations, satellite TVs, minibars, and wireless internet.

There are plenty of dining options at the resort, from the poolside Show restaurant and the Playa restaurant with its outdoor seating, to an ice cream parlour and a street truck serving salads and light refreshments. Guests can unwind with cocktails in the B Bar, or enjoy late night drinks and music at Jalsa.

The onsite LUX Me Spa offers an array of replenishing treatments and therapies, as well as a fitness centre and yoga classes. Guests can take a dip in the three swimming pools, or head to the beach and relax in the sunshine as the waves of the Indian Ocean gently lap on the sandy shore.

Holidaymakers can take part in a wide range of water and land activities including snorkelling, scuba diving, kite surfing, wind surfing. There are two onsite tennis courts to enjoy, giant chess games, bike riding, or guests can play golf on the Peter Matkovich-designed 18-hole championship course at the new Avalon Golf & Country Club.
