Kenya ranks first in growth of tourist bookings

A luxury travel network recently placed Kenya at the top of the list when it comes increasing tourism and that's expected to only climb higher in the near future. The African country is already one of the most popular holiday destinations for 2016, welcoming visitors with a blend of unique experiences and exclusive amenities.

Noted as one of the premiere upscale destinations for travellers anywhere in the world, Kenya is now getting another boost to its already impressive reputation thanks to a new ranking by a global travel network. American-based Virtuoso is known for its work in helping travellers plan luxury holidays, with hundreds of members and thousands of travel advisors located on virtually all corners of earth, as well as hundreds of affiliations with tour companies, cruise lines, airlines, plus resorts and hotels.

Recently, Virtuoso announced Kenya had gained the largest increase in tourist bookings worldwide. As detailed in a recent article on Daily Nation, author James Kariuki explains that Virtuoso awarded Kenya with a 59-percent growth in tourism. This tops the 56-percent attained by Iceland, 39-percent by Saint Martin and 35-percent by China. Other destinations making the top ten included Ecuador, Japan and South Africa. Tanzania, Croatia and Jamaica rounded out the rest of the list. Still though, Africa commanded an impressive 28-percent increase over the summer months.

According to the company that can be credited, in part, to the features a Kenyan holiday offers, from unique experiences and access to a range of upscale amenities. As relayed by Virtuoso during the yearly Virtuoso Travel Week in early August, it declared:

“Luxury travellers are seeking out more exotic locales worldwide, including a boom for Africa.”

The company projects that Kenya, South Africa and Tanzania specifically will all see tourist arrivals increase by 17-percent, as these three destinations are considered investments. To help further the trend, the Kenya Tourism Federation recently signed off on a partnership with British Airways that translates to some positive news for holiday travellers. Federation clients will receive discounted airfare for online ticket purchases between now and late May of next year.

The partnership allows KTF members to market Kenya to their clients with the lower rates, giving holiday travellers better prices through many travel agencies, tour operators and hotels. That’s great news for the rising number of holiday travellers who flock to the diverse countryside of Kenya for its impressive and upscale beach resorts, high-class shops and dining plus the country’s popular safaris and unique UNESCO World Heritage sites.
