Dominican Republic to host 19th Jazz Festival this week

The 19th Dominican Republic Jazz Festival will be taking place from 4th to 8th November, 2015 with five nights of free concerts for locals and holidaymakers. This year's event will host Grammy Award-winning artists and local and international stars in venues across Santiago, Sosua, Puerto Plata, and Cabarete.

The Dominican Republic is gearing up for its annual jazz festival this week that will see music from Grammy Award winners, as well as an array of local and international artists and bands.

The 19th Dominican Republic Jazz Festival will take place from 4th to 8th November, 2015 in various venues across of Santiago, Sosua, Puerto Plata, and Cabarete.

This year, the line-up will include the Big Band Conservatory of Santo Domingo with Javier Vargas, the Roy Assaf Trio, the Berklee Global Jazz Institute from the USA, the David Sanchez Quintet from Puerto Rico, the Pedrito Martinez Group from Cuba, Josean Jacobo from the Dominican Republic, and the Mario Canonge Trio from France.

Matt Marvuglio, the Dean of the Performance Division at Berklee College of Music, and Marco Pignataro, the Managing Director of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, will join the Artistic Advisory Board and will serve as advisors to FEDUJAZZ, the education organisation that provides free music education for young people from the Dominican Republic.

Over the last 19 years, the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival has welcomed performers including Grammy Award winners Ignacio Berroa, Joe Lovano, Chuck Mangione, Ray Baretto, Nestor Torres, Chucho Valdes, and Arturo Sandoval.

Holidaymakers and locals can enjoy all of the musical entertainment for free but VIP tickets are available with priority seating, complimentary drinks, and other perks during the four-day event. Proceeds will go to FEDUJAZZ.

The Dominican Republic occupies the eastern two thirds of the island of Hispaniola, shared the island with the country, Haiti. The Dominican Republic is the second largest Caribbean nation and offers plenty of reasons to visit it including pristine white sand palm infringed beaches; a warm tropical climate; sparkling azure ocean waters perfect for scuba diving and snorkelling; and an array of activities including water sports, treks through lush tropical rainforests, and excursions to historical sites and towns.
