Qatar Airways launches its third Tanzania route
Qatar Airways has announced that it will operate five weekly flights to Zanzibar and as of 1st October 2015, the number of flights will increase to seven daily flights. The announcement marks a major milestone in Qatar Airways' international growth strategy, as it is the third Tanzanian route the airline will operate and its 148th international destination.
Qatar Airways has announced that it will begin to offer flights to Zanzibar making this the third route the airline will be operating in Tanzania including previously established routes to Dar-es-Salaam and Kilimanjaro.
Currently, the five weekly flights to Zanzibar will go via Kilimanjaro making this an ideal option for travellers interested in twin city holidays in Tanzania.
Come 1st October 2015, travellers will also have even greater flexibility as the airline plans to increase the flight frequency to seven daily flights, with direct flights operating three times a week and flights via Kilimanjaro four times per week. Zanzibar's minister of infrastructure and communication, Juma Duni Haji hailed the decision to add the new route and recognised it as an opportunity to grow Zanzibar's tourism industry, he explained:
"We are delighted this global airline has chosen Zanzibar as its newest destination in Africa and we look forward to working together with the Qatar Airways team to bring further investment, trade and tourism to our island."
Marwan Koleilat, the chief commercial officer for Qatar Airways was equally positive about the move and underscored the increasing demand for holidays in Zanzibar, he commented:
"Zanzibar's attraction as a tourist destination has been steadily growing as more travellers discover its wonderful combination of cultures, and Qatar Airways in delighted to be able to give more people the opportunity to visit this beautiful island with all it has to offer."
Mr Koleilat went on to note the importance of Zanzibar to his firm's international growth strategy stating:
"This latest route marks yet another significant milestone for the airline that has spread its international wings to its 20th gateway in Africa and 148th destination globally."
The announcement of the new route to Zanzibar comes as the airline also announced increases to the flight frequency for a number of top holiday destinations in its extensive network including Dubai (UAE), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Luxor (Egypt) and Salalah (Oman).
On the Zanzibar- Doha route, Qatar Airways will be operating an Airbus A320 with a capacity for up 12 Business Class seats and 132 Economy seats. Typically each seat offers passengers an interactive audio and video entertainment system with a selection of 1,000 movies, TV programmes and music channels.
