Etihad Airways and the Tourism Authority of Thailand enter into partnership

Etihad Airways has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Under the terms of the partnership, Etihad will promote holidays to Thailand from key source markets including Europe and the Middle East. The Abu Dhabi based airline currently has a vested interest in the development of Thailand's tourism industry as it operates five daily flights to the Southeast Asian destination.

In an effort to increase the number of holidaymakers visiting Thailand each year, Abu Dhabi based Etihad Airways has entered into a partnership with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

As part of the $1.25 million agreement, Etihad will promote holidays to Thailand from key markets in its international network such as the United Arab Emirates, UK, Ireland, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, South Africa, Iran and Kuwait.

Present at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations was Etihad's senior vice president of marketing Shane O'Hare and TAT's acting governor Juthaporn Rerngronasa.

At the MoU signing, Mr O'Hare noted his firm's longstanding relationship with Thailand highlighting the fact that its Bangkok route which was first launched in April 2004 was in fact one of his firm's first international routes, he explained:

"Etihad Airways has a long and proud association with Thailand. It continues to be one of the busiest in our network enjoying strong year-round demand, particularly from the UAE, GCC, Middle East, Africa and Europe...

"Through innovative joint marketing campaigns, we aim to bring hundreds of thousands of first-time and repeat travellers from Europe and the Middle East to Thailand to enjoy this beautiful country and to experience the warm, friendly hospitality for which the Thai people are world-renowned."

TAT Is said to be working towards a goal of attracting 28 million international visitors who are expected to generate as much as 1.35 trillion Baht (US$41 billion).

Etihad's commitment to marketing Thailand as a top holiday destination not only helps to boost tourism in Thailand but also helps to secure Etihad's extensive investment in the country.

Currently Etihad Airways offers five daily direct flights to Thailand, four to Bangkok and one to Phuket. Additionally, the deal provides an opportunity for Etihad to further promote growing international network, particularly to those customers interested in multi-destination holidays.

Etihad Airways operates flights to up to 111 destinations including those in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas.
