Paradisus Punta Cana receives Blue Flag Certification

Paradisus Punta Cana has received the coveted Blue Flag recognition for its eco-friendly initiatives over the last year.

The luxury resort in the Dominican Republic received the award in the international voluntary certification programme's 'beach sector' category for creating an eco-friendly environment for its guests.

Conrad Bergwerf, the General Manager of Paradisus Resorts Punta Cana, explained:

"We are honoured to obtain the Blue Flag eco-label as a result of our extensive sustainability initiatives over the past year."

To receive Blue Flag certification, there must be environmentally-friendly facilities, disability access, swimming areas or beaches marked with buoy signals, management of organic materials, and properly installed toilets that do not pollute or interfere with the beach.

The luxury beachfront resort must also create a recycling program and form a specific committee to ensure all environmental efforts are put in place and sustained.

Paradisus Punta Cana's sister property, Paradisus Palma Real in Punta Cana, also received Blue Flag accolade for the third year in a row.

Paradisus Resorts is an all inclusive luxury resort brand which is owned and operated by the Spanish company, Melia Hotels International.

Punta Cana is located on the east coast of the Dominican Republic and the region is renowned for its world-class golf resorts and designer championship golf courses. The surrounding azure ocean provides plenty of opportunities for scuba diving, snorkelling, swimming, windsurfing, sailing, and deep-sea fishing adventures, while the Bavaro area is home to the award-winning Bavaro Beach and an array of luxury hotels, casinos, boutique shops, gourmet restaurants, and chic bars.

The Dominican Republic is a Caribbean country that occupies the eastern two thirds of the island of Hispaniola that is shared with Haiti. The nation is home to breathtaking natural landscapes such as majestic mountains, vast lakes, winding rivers, crystal clear cobalt ocean waters, and pristine white sand beaches.
