Robert De Niro signs deal to develop new hotel in Barbuda

The Hollywood actor Robert De Niro will be involved in the development of a new hotel project in the Caribbean.

The film star signed a memorandum of understanding with Prime Minister Gaston Browne to develop a hotel project on the island of Barbuda in a partnership with Australian James Packer.

The investment project is estimated at around $250 million and it will involve the renovation and expansion of the K-Club Hotel in Barbuda. De Niro is no stranger to the twin island nation of Antigua and Barbuda and is a frequent guest to Jumby Bay hotel in Antigua and he has been named by the Prime Minister as the country’s newest “special economic envoy”.

“We are indeed very delighted that you will be embarking on a very exciting project on Barbuda, transforming the island, making it one of the most exciting islands in the region,” Prime Minister Browne told De Niro last week.

“It is my belief that your celebrity status will attract more American celebrities to Antigua and Barbuda and the Caribbean.”

Over the last few decades, De Niro has become involved in the hospitality industry working with restaurateur Nobu Matsuhisa on the Nobu restaurants and the Nobu hotel brand located around the world.

The new luxury hotel in Barbuda will operate under the “Paradise Found” brand.

The nation of Antigua and Barbuda is located between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and it is famous for its wide selection of beautiful pristine white sand beaches.

Barbuda is the smaller of the two islands, located north of Antigua, and it boasts a popular spot for bird watching at the Frigate Bird Sanctuary in the Codrington Lagoon. The island is less built-up and has a selection of luxury beachfront hotels and resorts.

Antigua is the largest of the twin-island nation and it is a hotspot for destination for weddings, honeymoons, and family holidays thanks to its natural scenery which is typical of the Caribbean: white sand palm-fringed beaches, warm azure ocean waters, and verdant forests and landscapes.
