The number of visitors staying in hotels and hotel apartments across Abu Dhabi in August this year increased by 22 per cent compared to the same month in 2013.

Figures released by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority revealed the highest number of August guests ever recorded, with 306,890 visitors staying in 156 hotels and hotel apartments across Abu Dhabi.

Jasem Al Darmaki, the Acting Director General of the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, explained:

"We are much encouraged by the August results, with hotel occupancy for the month achieving 70 per cent, which is up by 11 per cent on last year and this has to be judged alongside the fact that we have more hotels to fill this year than last."

There are ten additional hotels in the emirate this year, compared to 2013, bringing 2,495 more guest rooms to the tourism market.

The number of UK guest arrivals also increased in August by 36 per cent year-on-year, with 14,437 leisure and business travellers staying in the United Arab Emirate.

Abu Dhabi received 2.2 million visitor arrivals during the first eight months of 2014, which is a 27 per cent rise compared to the same period in 2013.Mr Al Darmaki also explained:

"Summer this year has seen a host of entertainment events in Abu Dhabi which, together with a very affordable room rate of AED352 could well have influenced the uplift.

"We are already planning for Abu Dhabi Summer Season 2015 with the aim of taking our product much earlier to market."

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the seven United Arab Emirates and it is a popular holiday and business destination for UK travellers.

Tourists can enjoy access to a wide range of attractions, such as Khalifa Park, Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the Marina Mall, and the Abu Dhabi Mall. The waterfront, golden sandy beaches, world-class golf courses, and lush emerald parks provide plenty of opportunities for family activities and relaxation away from the bustling city.
