Three airlines launch direct flights from UK to Indonesia

Indonesia is set to become infinitely more accessible to UK travellers after three airlines - Garuda Indonesia, Royal Brunei Airlines and Oman Air - announced direct flights to the world's largest archipelago, including the capital, Jakarta, and the popular paradise island of Bali.

Three airlines launch direct flights from UK to Indonesia

Travel to the south-east Asian archipelago of Indonesia just got much easier, with a trio of airlines recently announcing new direct routes from the UK. Garuda Indonesia, Oman Air and Royal Brunei Airlines are offering new straightforward routes from London to Indonesia, where previously passengers would have to catch a connecting flight.

Indonesia's national carrier, Garuda Indonesia, began operating direct flights from London Gatwick to Jakarta, via Amsterdam, in early September. The route uses brand new Boeing 777 aircrafts, with a redesigned and more spacious business class section.

Capitalising on the popularity of the exotic island of Bali, Royal Brunei Airlines started running a service from London Heathrow to Bali's new airport this summer, making the island more accessible to British travellers. The airline now operates four flights a week on board an Airbus A319. Customers using this service will also have the option of stopping in Brunei upon their return trip.

As part of its expansion into Asia, Oman Air will introduce new flights from London Heathrow to Jakarta, via the Omani capital of Muscat, this December. From 12th December, the carrier will offer three flights a week on board its popular A330 aircraft, with a fourth to be added in January 2015.

Richard Hume, Country Manager at Hume Whitehead PR, which represents the Indonesian tourist board in the UK, said:

"We are delighted to see this increased capacity, giving customers more flexible options to visit Indonesia. We are confident that numbers will continue to grow and the air capacity will continue to rise."

Indonesia encompasses more than 17,000 tropical islands, including Bali, known as the Island of the Gods. The country's main gateway and capital city, Jakarta, is a thriving Asian metropolis on the island of Java, with great connections to the rest of the archipelago. In 2014, the country has seen an 8.9% increase in travellers visiting from the UK.
