The Caribbean twin-island nation of St Kitts and Nevis is set to receive a second cruise ship pier at Port Zante after The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) signed a memorandum of understanding with Jay Cashman, Inc of Massachusetts.

The new $31 million cruise pier will be able to accommodate two Oasis class cruise ships at the same time which will transport even more tourists to the island where they can enjoy all tropical St Kitts and Nevis has to offer as a leading holiday destination.

"The signing of this MOU is indeed a timely response to the challenges that SCASPA is facing with respect to berthing facilities," explained Jonathan Bass, the CEO of SCASPA. "The unprecedented growth in the cruise tourism sub-sector that St. Kitts has experienced over the past six years has placed tremendous pressure on our berthing infrastructure particularly on those days when more than three large vessels request berthing."

The Oasis Class sized vessels are the world's largest passenger ships and perfect for providing luxurious holidays to St Kitts and Nevis and the rest of the Caribbean. Construction of the new pier is expected to start in October, 2013 and will be completed by November, 2014 in time for the 2014/2015 cruise season.

"We make investments based on the economics and the track record. And St. Kitts has had enormous track record of success in this industry. It is a very desirable port and we think there's a solid growth (potential)," commented Jay Cashman, Chairman of Jay Cashman, Inc.

"Just look around and compare St. Kitts with so many other Caribbean countries and you see a stark difference. I think that St. Kitts has got a great future (ahead)."

St Kitts and Nevis is a popular destination for yacht and cruise holidays in the Caribbean and the islands receive visitors all year round thanks to the tropical climate and breathtaking natural landscapes such as white sand beaches fringed with crystal clear turquoise ocean waters, lush green forests, volcanic peaks, and winding rivers.

The island nation is undergoing new upgrades and development of its transport facilities. These include the new private jet terminal at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, expansion of the Port Zante marina and modernised yacht entry and clearance administration, and brand new marina facilities which are currently under construction at Christophe Harbour.

The two islands are separated by a two-mile channel which makes it easy for tourists to enjoy the best of both islands during holidays in St Kitts and Nevis.

Holidaymakers can stay onboard the luxury cruise ships or choose from an array of upscale beachfront hotels and resorts. Visitors can take part in a wide range of activities including tours to historical sites, bird watching, scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing, catamaran cruises, fishing, golf, shopping, and pampering treatments in luxury spas.
