Trudi Pearce, the Head of UK-based Destinations Partnerships, has revealed that the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago is the second favourite destination for responsible and authentic travel in the Caribbean.

Speaking at the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) Sustainable Tourism Conference last week, Ms Pearce said that travellers are now seeking a more authentic experience during their Trinidad and Tobago holidays.

The island nation of Cuba was ranked as the favourite destination for responsible Caribbean holidays and Trinidad and Tobago is becoming an increasingly popular location for tourists who are looking to get more out of their holiday.

Trinidad and Tobago is a popular destination for tropical holidays due to its beautiful sandy beaches, warm turquoise ocean waters, majestic mountains, and verdant forests and rolling hills.

"Trinidad and Tobago has been working with by targeting its editorial database," Ms Pearce explained.

"In order for the country to be more positioned for authentic experiences, the programme needs to be expanded into both islands. The product marketing has mainly been out of Tobago. I think there are some fantastic experiences here in Trinidad that can be displayed on the website and packaged for clients."

The two islands are home to an array of luxurious hotels, gourmet restaurants, and a lively nightlife scene.

Tourists taking holidays to Trinidad and Tobago can enjoy tours of Caroni Bird Sanctuary, the Emperor Valley Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Fort George, or the spectacular corals of Buccoo Reef. Annual festivals include Divali, the Hindu festival of lights and the Tobago heritage festival, while active travellers can take part in activities such as golf, snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing and horse riding. was established in 2001 and holidaymakers can use the site to search for authentic and responsible holidays in Trinidad and Tobago and hundreds of other destinations. Visitors will have access to operators' responsible travel policies where they can see how every trip benefits the local people and the environment. Travellers' feedback is also published on the site.
