Rosewood Hotels & Resorts' First Green Globe Certification Awarded to Bermuda Hotel

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has received its first ever green Globe certification after Rosewood Tucker's Point in Bermuda was honoured with the prestigious award.

The hotel was recognised for its efforts in providing eco friendly Bermuda holidays for tourists while achieving economic and social sustainability.

The CEO of Green Globe Certification, Guido Bauer, stated: “We are extremely proud to have worked with Rosewood Tucker´s Point. All sustainable initiatives meet or exceed the requirements of the Green Globe Standard for Sustainable Tourism and Travel, and the resort’s Facilitation Management and Green Team have worked incredibly hard.

“This hotel truly sets a high standard for other properties in Bermuda to follow in its footsteps. Not only energy, water, and waste management are excellent, but everyone at the resort ‘thinks green,’ creating an all-around green workplace, and doing everything possible to protect the environment, flora, and fauna.”

The property is a popular retreat for tourists going on holidays in Bermuda due to its luxurious facilities and ecological practices. These include the island’s largest thermal solar hot water system, solar panels on the roof of its Golf Clubhouse and solar-powered golf carts.

Conserving water is one of the resort’s main priorities and it has a wastewater treatment plant in place and a seawater reverse osmosis system that allows the property to produce its own water, treat all used water, and reuse it on site. The rainwater collection and storage systems collect up to 2.5 million gallons of rainwater and this is used across the 24-acre resort, from guest rooms and golf villas, to the Golf Clubhouse and corporate offices. All discharged water goes to the treatment plant where it is then diverted to a two-million-gallon pond and it is used to water the resort’s golf course.

Rosewood Tucker’s Point has its own bio fuel/biodiesel production plant that uses waste vegetable oil from its commercial kitchens to power diesel vehicles that are used throughout the property.

During holidays to Bermuda, guests can choose to have their bed and bath linens washed every other day by leaving special cards on their beds. The informative Tucker´s Point Magazine and a DVD explains local culture and shows visitors how they can help preserve the nearby Core & Shell, a natural harbour on the island.

The 88-room luxury Bermuda resort has an array of upscale facilities including gourmet restaurants, a fitness centre, a diving centre, swimming pools, an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, a croquet lawn, a lavish 12,000-square-metre spa, and access to a pristine pink sand beach.

The property stands out from other Bermuda hotels, not only because of its excellent facilities and services, but because it is committed to conserving the environment and educating others about the importance of implementing sustainable practices.
The Vice President of Facilities Management at Rosewood Tucker’s Point, Kevin Lanthier, said: “The Green Globe Certification reinforces Rosewood Hotels´ commitment to be the best that it can be, not only for its guests, but for the environment and community we operate in.”
