Fly Montserrat, a Montserrat-based airline has recently expanded its route network in the Caribbean by launching new daily flights between Antigua and Nevis, thus offering travellers more flexibility when it comes to planning multi-centre Caribbean holidays in Antigua and Nevis.

Hon. Joseph Parry, Premier of the Caribbean island nation of St Kitts and Nevis made the announcement about the new air service last week and told the Department of Information that he was very pleased about Fly Montserrat’s expansion.

"I am happy to say that the Route Licenses have been granted, and the new service will begin on the 4th June, using Islander aircraft with a 9-seat capacity”, he said.

At the moment fares are being finalised but according to reports, the airline expects them to be similar to what passengers are currently paying with LIAT.

This new air route will give those planning Antigua holidays the opportunity to add a little variety to their holiday experience by visiting the neighbouring island of Nevis via a short plane ride.

Mr. Nigel Harris, Managing Director at Fly Montserrat, recently met with agents, media officials and hotel owners in Nevis to express his delight and enthusiasm about the new air route: “Everyone has been enormously helpful in getting this off the ground and I hope, if it is well used, that we will be able to expand by offering further flights as demand increases” The Company plans to have the aircraft and crew overnighting in Nevis and wishes to become part of the community.

“Fly Montserrat promises to be a part of the community by offering discounts or complimentary travel to residents of Nevis in case of illness, or other emergencies,” said Mr. Harris.

He added that the timings of the Nevis flights to Antigua will now allow passengers enjoying holidays in St Kitts and Nevis to spend a full day touring around Antigua. They will also offer the opportunity for people to visit the tiny Caribbean island of Montserrat for a day trip.

Mr. Alastair Sherwood, Tourism Advisor in the Nevis Island Administration, expressed his joy over the new route, saying that the airline is a great addition to the St Kitts and Nevis holiday industry and the flight times are excellent for North Americans and Europeans holidaymakers travelling to and from Nevis.

“The morning flight allows easy connections to other islands through Antigua, and the afternoon flight from Antigua to Nevis at 5.15pm allows for connecting passengers off British Airways and Virgin from London, off American Airlines from Miami and New York and off Air Canada from Toronto to get to Nevis the same afternoon,” Mr. Yearwood said.

On another note, the month of May marks the third anniversary since the sompany began its operations out of Montserrat, and it has now carried nearly 25,000 passengers on its scheduled service, operates charters throughout the Caribbean, carries freight and offers many other conveniences.

Fly Montserrat has also recently acquired its fourth aircraft after purchasing the Islander aircraft from one of its competitors in Anguilla. The brand new aircraft is undergoing a complete overhaul and will be put into service shortly.
