Sofitel opens new luxury Mauritius hotel

According to an article recently published in The Indepent, the recently opened Sofitel So Mauritius in the southern end of Mauritius is the most exclusive place to be in the island. Judging by Adrian Mourby's article, the modern So Mauritius resort is the ideal place for visitors to find peace, relaxation and comfort. Open to guests since December 2010, this wonderful addition to the island’s resorts, offers travellers the opportunity to lay back, unwind and just enjoy the very best of Mauritius holidays.

One of the many interesting features of this gem amongst Mauritius hotels is its modern architecture. “Lek” Bunnang, the Thai architect that created elaborated the resort´s design(no doubt influenced by Buddhist tendencies), and supervised the hotel's construction, decided to make a feature of the Belle Riviere watercourse as it makes its way to the Indian Ocean.

Visitors can expect gardens of raked sand, and temple-like structures greeting them Many places, such as the “floating” spa can only be accessed by small pebbled roads raised over the flowing water.

Guest rooms are no disappointment to the rest of the extravagant and splendid structural design. semi-detached whitewashed stone pods for beds to carved dodos (extinct flightless bird native from Mauritius) as decor, guest rooms are fantasy islands for people wishing to experience true luxury holidays. Each suite is provided with its own private garden, leading to the white-sand beach.

The guest rooms also boast indoor and outdoor showers, marble double sinks and hot tub in the outside garden. The large beds and tasteful colours of the sheets and wallpapers were picked out by Kenzo Tadaka, Japanese designer. The resort has 90 suites and villas, and two highly expensive presidential villas.

The So Mauritius hotel has acquired a big part of its fame due to the amazing dining experience it provides across its selection of impeccable restaurants. Le Flamboyant, the hotel’s most celebrated restaurant, is an extraordinary piece of architecture. The restaurant is built to appear floating over the water, though in reality, it is surrounded by a moat, with cascades of water running down into the blue tiled channels on all four sides of this thatched structure. At night, Le Flamboyant is illuminated by 12 pillars of blue light.

An outstanding chef, specialising in the finest cuisine couldn’t go missing. The menu is under the supervision of Jacques Ledu, one-time winner of Mauritian Chef of the Year, and the young sommelier, Nilesh. Even though prices could go high if ordering something off-menu, hotel guests shouldn’t miss out on this unique Mauritius holidays’ experience, which will be served with only the finest and freshest ingredients. Lunch is served at the beachside restaurant La Plage.

Visitors can access internet free in their rooms, though connection may be quite slow, every suite has a CD player, and can request DVD players(and DVD’s from the library) if they wish. For guests who wish to spend their holidays in Mauritius relaxing, unwinding, and relieving all stress from their bodies, the So Spa (the resort’s moated spa) will be awaiting them with open arms.

This magnificent hotel is open to all ages, and children under the age of 12 can stay free in their parent’s room. Pets are not permitted, and wheelchair access is adequate. Double rooms are reasonably priced from ¤376, and breakfast costs ¤30 per person. In short, the new So Mauritius is a place to indulge in every sense and level imaginable.
