Tourism revenue for Abu Dhabi holidays increases in first half of 2011
The first half of 2011 has set record on tourism revenue for the United Arab Emirates. The number of travellers enjoying Abu Dhabi holidays has escalated in the past six months, making the UK its main visitor source. ADTA keeps working to keep figures up.
Over the first half of 2011, the amount of travellers taking Abu Dhabi holidays increased remarkably, by reaching a new record of visitors. Guest numbers, nights of stay, occupancy, revenue and length-of-stay have all risen considerably according to the latest figures.
Guest nights increased by 26 per cent to over three million, and hotel guests were up 11 per cent to a little over one million. Even occupancy rose 10 per cent to 70 per cent, and revenue stepped up to six per cent while the average length-of-stay expanded 13 per cent to 2.97 nights.
The United Kingdom has remained the emirate’s main hotel guest source in the first six months of 2011, with 72,998 visitors, marking a 20 per cent increase in comparison to the first half of the previous year. However the UK has not been the only one to contribute to in the rising popularity of this destination; India, Germany, Saudi Arabia, France, Italy, Australia, Kuwait and Russia all rose by more than 15 per cent, with Russia being one of the most significant in terms of growth, escalating to 40 per cent.
Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) stated his delight in the rising figures . “This is an impressive performance,” he said “and one which bodes well for the destination achieving its stretch target of two million guests by the end of this year.”
Sheikh Sultan also pointed out that more people are keen on taking these luxury holidays to Abu Dhabi, now that the cost of accommodations has decreased. “Results have been assisted by the destination’s heightened competitiveness with average room rates falling by 15 per cent in the first half compared to last year making Abu Dhabi a more affordable up-scale option than Sydney, Paris, New York or Tokyo.”
This fascinating destination has great surprises in store for interested travellers. The opening of ten, five-star Abu Dhabi hotels by the end of 2011 has been recently announced. In ADTA’S opinion these hotels will significantly add to the nation’s appeal and expand its general market reach.
“Many of these are major beachfront resorts which will substantially boost our leisure proposition,” Sheikh Sultan explained . “And, with all being managed by high-end chains, there will be significant additional weight added to the destination’s international marketing through CRM and the combined power of these chains in distribution channels.”
The second half of this already fruitful year for the Middle-Eastern nation will be packed with exciting events. The opening of brand new luxury hotels in Abu Dhabi with some amazing “compelling visitor package deals” (according to the words of Sheikh Sultan himself) will be just one of the many things marking the major celebrations that will take place this summer in the emirate. “This includes the third Formula 1 Eithad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this November, nationwide celebrations this December to mark the 40th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates and the highly-anticipated hosting of the Volvo Ocean Race fleet for a two-week, carnival-style stopover starting 30th December.”
The ADTA organisation itself received the honour of being recognised as the World’s Leading Tourist Board by the World Travel Awards. “We have a great accommodation and attractions infrastructure now in place, keener competitiveness and a more compelling story with which to engage potential visitors.” concludes Sheikh Sultan in his hope that the efforts made to continue raising the popularity of Abu Dhabi holidays will pay off.
