New direct flights take travellers from America to Dominican Republic holidays

The introduction of new direct flights to the Dominican Republic from new American airports have been welcomed by the country’s Ministry of Tourism.

Travellers will now be able to take direct flights to their holidays in the Dominican Republic after American Eagles launched daily flights from Miami to La Romana's Casa de Campo International Airport in April, and JetBlue is scheduled to operate flights from New York’s JFK airport to La Romana's Casa de Campo airport in November, 2011.

Vice Minister of Dominican Republic's International Promotion, Magaly Toribio, said: “Dominican Republic's long-term commitment to innovative marketing has firmly established our culturally rich paradise in the hearts and minds of global travellers who seek sensational sun, azure blue seas and sumptuous and affordable world-class hotels.”

The new flights will enable more American travellers to take direct routes to Dominican Republic holidays which will help boost tourism to the Caribbean island.

“Our country's increasing popularity with U.S. visitors allows our airline partners to increase their flights to meet the growing demand for our warm and welcoming island nation,” Toribio added.

The Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) was held at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Convention Centre in Punta Cana on 27th-29th April and attracted hundreds of international tourism buyers, travel and tour operators and the media who helped promote Dominican Republic holidays, attractions, sites, and Dominican Republic hotels.

During the annual event, the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism announced that non-resident visits to the island nation had increased by 3.3 per cent during the first quarter of 2011, indicating that visitor arrivals for 2011 are expected to surpass the 4.1 million tourist figures recorded during 2010.

The Dominican Republic is a country that occupies the eastern two thirds of the island of Hispaniola which it shares with Haiti. The island nation boasts miles of white sand pristine Caribbean beaches, mountain ranges, lush valleys, lakes and warm turquoise ocean waters.
