Trinidad Hotels Restaurants and Tourism Association appoints new Executive Director

After a successful career in the hospitality and Caribbean holidays industry, Louanna Chai-Alves has been appointed as the new Executive Director for the Trinidad Hotels Restaurants and Tourism Association.

The President and Board of Directors of the Trinidad Hotels Restaurants and Tourism Association (THRTA) have announced that Louanna Chai-Alves is the new Executive Director for the organisation.

Chai-Alves has nearly 20 years in the hospitality and Caribbean holidays industry and started her new role on 1st April 2011.

Michelle Palmer-Keizer, President of the Trinidad Hotels Restaurants and Tourism Association said: “We take this opportunity to welcome Mrs Chai-Alves to the THRTA family with the knowledge that our stakeholders will give her their full support as we strive to create new opportunities and build the support structures required to take our industry forward.”

Over the past 20 years Chai-Alves has worked at the Holiday Inn and Canadian Lake Express in Toronto, Canada, the Grafton Beach Resort in Tobago, and the Normandie Hotel and Kapok Hotel in Trinidad in various roles ranging from management and development of work teams, strategic planning and the administration and support of operations.

Chai-Alves was the first vice president of the Trinidad Hotels Restaurants and Tourism Association from 1999-2002 and she was a member of the marketing committee from 2006-2008.

Chai-Alves started her journey in the tourism sector when she gained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Ryerson University in Toronto, majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of the West Indies, Institute of Business.

Chai-Alves has also helped the development of tourism professionals in the Caribbean holidays sector by lecturing at the Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute.

The Trinidad Hotels Restaurants and Tourism Association is governed by a Board comprising a President and ten Directors who have the responsibility of guiding the Association's strategies and policies on issues which affect holidays in Trinidad and Tobago and the region’s tourism sector.

Trinidad and Tobago is situated in the south Caribbean, 10km off the coast of Venezuela. Tobago is located 33km northeast of Trinidad and both islands are popular tourist destinations for travellers taking Caribbean holidays.

During Trinidad and Tobago holidays, tourists can enjoy miles of pristine palm-fringed beaches, lush green mountains and rolling hills, coral reefs and vibrant festive carnivals.
