A new project which is being led by the City Curator's Office (CCO) in Cuba, will allow travellers to visit one of the World Heritage Sites in the province of Cienfuegos currently being restored, whilst learning the history about the region during their Cuba holidays.

The new project will see approximately 1,400 properties undergo restoration and the planting of 440 new trees in public areas. Director of the City Curator's Office, Iran Millan Cuetara, explained that many of the roads will be resurfaced and lit, and hydraulic and sanitary facilities will be upgraded as part of the project.

Travellers enjoying holidays in Cuba will have the chance to visit the region's most stunning sights whilst learning about the history of the province and how important the heritage status is to the community.

Visitors have already started taking their Cuba holidays in the province and are being encouraged to participate in equestrian activities, explore the stunning national parks, and stay in the hospitable Cuba hotels and resorts.

Cienfuegos is located on the south coast of Cuba approximately 150 miles from the country's capital city, Havana. The city and province is often referred to as the "Pearl of the South" and operates one of the main seaports in Cuba which is the centre of the sugar, coffee and tobacco trade.

Popular attractions in the region include the Cathedral de la Purisma Concepcion with its beautiful stained-glass windows, Jardin Botanico de Cienfuegos and its 97 hectares of landscaped gardens, the neo-gothic Palacio de Valle, Castillo de Nuestra Senora de los Angeles de Jagua – the fortress, and the chance for travellers to experience sightings of dolphins and sea lions in the Delfinario lagoon.

The enchanting city is home to many palaces, mansions and beautiful architecture boasting bright stained-glass windows, and the tree-lined Cienfuegos Boulevard which leads from the Jose Marti Park to the trendy area of Punta Gorda with its marina and sports clubs.
