The Safari Collection expands its Kenya holidays portfolio with 4th property
Yet another deluxe eco-property has been added to the Safari Collection as they expand the number of lodges in Kenya at some of the most beautiful locations in this African country. The new lodge is the group's 4th and is located in the Solio Game Reserve
The Safari Collection’s newest property Solio just very recently opened its doors during the beginning of August 2010, completing the group’s circuit of luxurious camps and lodges in some of Kenya’s most beautiful locations, for truly spectacular and unforgettable Kenya holidays.
Nicely hidden in the valley between the dramatic slopes of Mount Kenya and the rolling peaks of the Aberdare Mountains, the new Solio Lodge is located within the Solio Game Reserve which was established in 1970. The reserve, which is internationally recognised as the most successful private rhino breeding reserve in Kenya, is home to over 74 Black Rhinoceros and 155 White Rhinoceros, as well as numerous other species including buffalo, zebra, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, an abundance of birdlife and game such as eland, oryx, impala, waterbuck, thompson’s gazelle and warthog. A wide variety of other species also populate the land including some of the continent’s most fascinating and elusive species.
This marvellous, eye-catching and stunning thatched property comprises six opulent cottages built using entirely local materials, with large feature windows to take in the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and Mount Kenya beyond. It includes spacious private decks, a separate lounge area warmed by a corner fire (Solio is high in altitude and can be cold at night), and large bathrooms with a double sink, bath and shower. The entire thatched property has been built using local materials. Rates start from $620 per room per night fully inclusive of all meals and guided safari activities.
Besides safari experience, Solio offers a wide range of activities including horseback riding, walking, game drives, trout fishing trips to Mount Kenya, helicopter flights and expeditions to the Aberdare Mountains.
The new property has been built by Tanya and Mikey Carr-Hartley, the owners and operators of the three Tamimi properties - Giraffe Manor, Sasaab and Sala’s Camp.
