Muriya wins Green Habitat Award for "As Sodah Island" project

The Muriya Tourism Development Company has received the Green Habitat Award for its efforts in providing an eco-friendly and healthy workplace with the As Sodah Island Project which is currently under construction.

The Muriya Tourism Development Company was formed in a joint partnership by Egypt's Orascom Hotels and Development and the Omani Government in 2006. The company specialises in providing luxury Oman hotels and currently has four projects underway across Oman including As Sodah Island.

As Sodah Island is an eco-friendly development currently under construction. The development is designed to avoid any threats to existing species such as coral reefs and turtle nesting beaches. The project will ensure that water is disposed ecologically and expert specialists will supervise regular beach clean ups and environmental monitoring.

As Sodah Island, also known as Sawdah or Black Island, is situated in the archipelago of the Al Hallaniyat Islands which lie off the coast of south-eastern Oman. The island project is also expected to use a natural and environmental friendly waste water process, the Reed Bed sewage treatment plan.

CEO of Muriya Tourism Development, Cyril Piaia, said:

"This award signifies that our efforts have not only been recognised but also appreciated. We have been adamant about minimising impact on the environment and this has been the policy of our company from the very beginning. Serious steps have been taken to preserve species and conserve energy and water without compromising on the design or comfort of our customers."

The new development will combine green with luxury by providing environmentally friendly Oman holidays for travellers from all over the world and luxury hotels in Oman.

The Oman Green Awards initiative aims to raise the level of environmental awareness within Oman hotels and resorts and encourages behavioural changes to conserve and protect the environment. Muriya's other ongoing projects include two integrated Oman tourism complexes, Jebel Sifah and Salalah Beach which will offer freehold properties.
