Caribbean holidays and their potential at Caribbean Marketplace 2010

Taking place from 10th January -12th January 2010, this year's Caribbean Marketplace 2010 is expected to be larger than 2009's event which surpassed the mark of 400 stalls for the first time.

Caribbean holidays and their potential at Caribbean Marketplace 2010
This year the Caribbean holidays appeal will be promoted and tested at the Caribbean Marketplace 2010 taking place in Puerto Rico, which invites countries from all over the Caribbean to showcase what they have to offer.
The requisite business-to-business marketing event for the Caribbean hotel and tourism industry, the Caribbean Marketplace fair connects participating countries for negotiating and conducting business as well as promoting their Caribbean holidays with buyers from around the world.
This year, Caribbean Marketplace 2010 is expected to be even larger than the 2009 version, which saw the number of booths and stalls top the 400 mark for the first time in a decade. As many as 12,292 appointments were scheduled in 2009, second only to the record set in 2008.
This year Caribbean Marketplace comes at a crucial time when many Caribbean countries debate their sustainability and future as a favoured holiday destination. Taking place at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan from January 10-12, this year's Caribbean Marketplace has been deemed absolutely critical due to its timing at the cusp of what many experts are speculating will be the beginning of the tourism industry's recovery, good news specially for Caribbean holidays, which had suffered badly during 2009’s downturn.
“Attending Caribbean Marketplace 2010 is hands down the most important thing you can do for your tourism product as we enter the new decade,” said Enrique De Marchena Kaluche, President of CHTA.
“It is widely known that the greatest fortunes are made by those who not only survive a slump, but are well positioned at the start of a major economic recovery. This makes Caribbean Marketplace 2010 critical for all members of the region's hospitality sector, including tour operators who are likely to walk away from Caribbean Marketplace with some very lucrative contracts,” De Marchena Kaluche continued.
Pent-up demand for warm weather budget and luxury holidays has grown extensively during the recent economic downturn as consumers have postponed their trips in anticipation of better times. As the economic outlook improves, the desire for Caribbean holidays will be unleashed upon the Caribbean with high expectations of increased bookings in 2010 and beyond. Caribbean Marketplace 2010 in San Juan gives the perfect opportunity for wholesalers, tour operators and meeting planners to meet with the best Caribbean hotels and tourist office officials to plan and prepare packages to accommodate potential 2010 holidaymakers.
“With a projected tourism recovery just around the corner, Caribbean Marketplace 2010 represents an unprecedented opportunity for wholesalers and other buyers in the industry to secure extremely lucrative contracts,” said Enrique De Marchena Kaluche, president of CHTA.
“Operators and wholesalers present at Caribbean Marketplace will be best positioned to reap the maximum rewards from what experts are predicting will be a large influx of tourism over the next several years,” De Marchena Kaluche said on a final note.
“This next year brings great hope, and during Caribbean Marketplace in January, the region's tourism industry will gather in Puerto Rico for three days that will dictate business across the region for the entire year and beyond. Puerto Rico is proud to work closely with our partners across the Caribbean to pursue tourism as the most important pillar of our economies,” concluded Lopez Diaz.
