Overview Prices starting from £1769 per person ↓

Discover the rich kaleidoscope of colours northern Thailand has to offer. Away from the tropical coastline and exotic islands, you can discover the rich heritage that the country preserves dating back to the ancient Lanna Kingdom that once ruled the area. Stumble across ancient temples and ornate architecture, unique to the kingdom, in ancient towns of Lampang and Phrae whilst exploring areas that many tourists miss such as the city of Nan. Take in the incredible panoramic views from Wat Phra That Khao Noi with their iconic towering Buddha statue as well as meeting friendly local faces along the way.

  • Visit ancient temples home to relics of Buddha Explore the stunning Wat Phra That Cho Hae, the most ancient temple in Phrae, said to be home to sacred relics of Buddha
  • Interact with the nomadic tribal people Meet the local people of the Malbri village ‘Baan Boonyuen’ that reside in the jungle around Nan
  • Enjoy a traditional horse and carriage ride Travel through the charming ancient town of Lampang with a horse and carriage ride

Day 1: Head from Chiang Mai to Phrae
The adventure begins with an early start leaving Chiang Mai to head out to your first stop of Lampang. An ancient city off the regular beaten tourist track, Lampang offers stunning ancient temples and Lanna architecture alongside the motif of rooster that appears around the city. Take in the town surroundings and laid-back atmosphere with a ride on one of the famous horse drawn carriages that still parade around the town!
After lunch at a local restaurant, it’s time to continue onwards to the idyllic town of Phrae. Enjoy wandering through the charming lanes and admiring the traditional teak houses in the old town. End a day of exploring at the Wat Phra Non with its revered reclining Buddha and the Vongburi House museum in the heart of the old town.

Lunch and dinner included

Overnight in Phrae

Day 2: Explore Phrae
Begin your day exploring Phrae with a visit to Wat Phra Cho Hae. Regarded as one of the most sacred temples in Phrae, the royal temple was built during the Sukhothai period and is known to have a relic of Buddha inside.
Heading out of Phrae, you head out for the Phae Muang Phi Forest Park, known locally as the ‘City of Ghosts’ where the rocks have formed into unique formations over the years.
After the park, it is time to leave the town behind and carry on to the next destination of Nan via the Malbri village of ‘Baan Boonyuen’. A stop in the village gives you a unique opportunity to see how these nomadic tribal people live in the jungle surrounding Nan.
After lunch at a local restaurant, it’s time to head onto Nan where you can explore the city centre. An ancient city with an amalgamation of Lanna, Burmese, Shan and Tai Lue influences, Nan is still relatively unknown to foreign tourists making it the perfect place to discover ‘real’ Thailand. Spend the afternoon exploring some of the city’s top sites including the famous murals at Wat Phumin and wondering around the Nan National Museum before ending the day on top of the hill at Wat Phra That Khao Noi with the iconic towering Buddha statue.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

Overnight in Nan

Day 3: Carry on to Bo Klua
After breakfast, it is time to head out of Nan to Ban Bo Luang (also known as Bo Klua) where time seems to have stood still in this tranquil hill village. You can learn how the local people still make a living producing salt from the brine they collect from two mountain wells. After lunch, the rest of the afternoon is yours to explore the town or simply relax before dinner.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

Overnight in Bo Klua

Day 4: Finish in Chiang Mai
On your final day, you can visit the charming village of Nong Bua set on the banks of the Nan River. Take some time to explore the stunning temple built in the 19th century with a fascinating array of intricate murals depicting classic Tai Lue style. Whilst you’re in the village, you can meet the local woman’s group running the local cooperative silk and cotton weaving sheds.
The final leg of the journey is onto Chiang Rai via the stunning Phayao lake where you can enjoy an idyllic lunch before exploring the area. In the afternoon you can explore the Oub Kham home collection where you will find a collection of objects and artefacts from the ancient Lanna Kingdom before transferring back to Chiang Mai through the scenic mountain and jungle route
