This safari takes you off-the-beaten-track to explore Selous and Ruaha, two remote and unspoilt areas of Southern Tanzania. Ruaha National Park is a spectacular wilderness of undisturbed wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Selous is Africa's largest protected wildlife reserve and home to large numbers of elephant, hippo, lion and rhino. Day 1 - Fly to Nairobi

Fly overnight from Heathrow to Nairobi.

Day 2 - Dar es Salaam

On arrival in Nairobi connect with your onward flight to Dar es Salaam and transfer to your hotel. Although Dar es Salaam means 'Abode of Peace' in Arabic, it is the busiest and most important city in the country. This city was the capital during the German and British colonial period and is still Tanzania's primary city.

Day 3 - Ruaha National Park

Fly by light aircraft via Selous to Ruaha National Park. On arrival, transfer to your tented camp which is situated at the edge of Ruaha National Park on the banks of the Jongomero River. After lunch enjoy an afternoon game activity and then time at leisure in the camp. This camp is set in a stunning landscape of seasonal rivers, curious rock formations and rich vegetation. The 8 tented suites are raised on wooden platforms and include a spacious front veranda ensuring maximum privacy and views. The en suite bathrooms feature a double vanity and solar powered hot water shower. Guests can relax in the shade of an ebony tree or swim in the pool while enjoying uninterrupted views of the Jongomero River. Dining is an adventure with a combination of table d’hote, elegant buffets, dinner under the stars, campfire cooking and classic safari picnics. (b,l,d)

Day 4 - Ruaha National Park

Enjoy morning and afternoon game activities in the stunning wilderness of Ruaha National Park. This rugged landscape covers is the epitome of "wild Africa”. Ruaha is set in the transition zone where southern and eastern African species of flora and fauna overlap, creating a unique variety of animals, birds and vegetation. (b,l,d)

  • Overnight Jongomero Camp

Day 5 - Selous Game Reserve

After breakfast, take a light aircraft flight to the Selous Game Reserve. Transfer to Selous Safari Camp which is set in a unique riverine and lake complex on the banks of the mighty Rufiji River and Lake Nzerakera. The camp is comprised of two separate camps, North and South. The North camp has 6 tents and the South camp has 7 tents. Each section has its own dining area, bar and swimming pool. The tents are set on raised wooden platform and offer views of the lake or the river. Each tent features king-sized beds, ceiling fans and en suite bathrooms with open air hot water showers. After lunch enjoy an afternoon game activity in this amazing wilderness. (b,l,d)

Day 6 - Selous Game Reserve

This day includes both morning and late afternoon game activities in one of Africa’s least known, yet largest conservation areas. Selous Game Reserve is home to over half of Tanzania’s elephant population and the mighty river Rufiji River is home to one of the largest crocodile and hippo populations in Africa. (b,l,d)

Day 8 - Beach Holiday Extension or Fly Home

After breakfast, transfer by light aircraft flight back to Dar es Salaam where you can connect for an overnight flight via Nairobi to Heathrow. Why not extend your African holiday and add on a beach holiday extension at one of our Mombasa or Zanzibar hotels?

This safari does not operate from mid March to end of May. Children aged 7 and below are not permitted on this safari.
