The Country Lodge

4 stars

Overview

This glamorous showstopper in Sierra Leone’s capital is one of the nation’s most desirable and upmarket addresses. Located at the top of Hill Station in Freetown, what was once a private mansion has been lovingly converted into a luxury hotel complete with restaurant and country club.

  • Outstanding themed restaurant nights Eden Restaurant hosts a weekly live Jazz night for diners on Thursday evenings and a themed Mongolian night on Mondays. The poolside restaurant Coconut Terrace hosts a Sunday barbeque and a several specialty nights when a Tataki chef prepares Asian-themed delicacies.
  • Large swimming pool and separate children's pool There is a large outdoor pool in addition to a separate shallow pool designed for younger children. A food and drinks pool service is available daily from 11am until 11pm.
  • Complimentary personal trainers at the well-equipped gym The Country Lodge Complex offers one of the best gyms in the area, attracting both hotel guests and country club members. Highlights include cardiovascular and aerobic machines, weights, exercise equipment and gym instructors on hand for free personal training.

Whilst the vibe at this stylish hideaway is laid-back, there are plenty of diversions; from the large lap-length swimming pool and multi-use courts to a well-equipped gym with personal trainers to guide you through your workout at no extra charge. Following a major refurbishment in 2008, the resort offers 52 well-appointed air-conditioned guest rooms that mix classic and contemporary design styles. Most accommodation offers private balconies, whilst all provide en-suite bathrooms and other modern touches. Dining is an upbeat affair in two restaurants, both of which serve the same creative mix of freshly-prepared local, international and Asian-fusion cuisine. Offering indoor and outdoor seating, Eden Restaurant boasts a large balcony overlooking views across Freetown and hosts fabulous weekly Jazz and Mongolian nights. Alternatively, head poolside to Coconut Terrace for themed nights with a Tataki chef who prepares Asian-themed delicacies, and a weekly Sunday barbeque. For kicking back with an after-dinner cocktail, the hotel’s Terrace 51 is a chic drinking spot that thrills guests with a nightly happy hour.
