TOUR ITINERARY:

Day 1 - Arrival to Cape Town

After your arrival into Cape Town International Airport, you will be greeted by a Thompsons Africa representative and transferred to your hotel where you will spend the rest of the day at your own leisure.
During the first 3 days of this tour you will be making discoveries at your own pace, with plenty of free time available for independent sightseeing and strolling around Cape Town.

Suggestions: During your time at leisure make the most of your visit and explore Cape Town, also known as the “Mother City”. Take in the glorious views of the famous V&A Waterfront, where you can enjoy the buzz of a working harbour, world class restaurants, shopping and so much more. There are various day tours available in Cape Town and we suggest spending one of your free 3 days by going on the full day Cape Peninsula Tour, where you will be driven along the Atlantic seaboard via Hout Bay, to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and its scenic viewing point. You will then stop at Boulders Beach to see the African penguins, and then travel through the naval port of Simon’s Town. Simon’s Town is situated on False Bay and is rich in history, character and atmosphere.

Days 2 and 3

On these 2 additional days at your own leisure, we suggest you take an optional full day tour to the Cape Winelands. This excursion takes in the tranquillity and beauty of Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch in the Cape Winelands. Throughout this tour you can experience the rich historical and cultural heritage while sampling wines of merit at local well known wine estates. Alternatively, you could take in the sights and sounds of Cape Town on a half day optional Cape Town City Tour. The ultimate ‘Mother City’ experience – designed to orientate you and give you insight into the magic of Cape Town

Day 4 - Cape Town to Knysna

After breakfast collect your car at the Avis Cape Town downtown depot and begin your self-drive tour by travelling to Hermanus via the Hottentot Holland Mountain range. Hermanus has become known as the heart of the Cape Whale Coast, attracting nature lovers from all over the world, with numerous vantage points for viewing the southern right whales during their annual migration season (July – November). Hermanus is famous for its long stretches of beach, mild climate, rich floral kingdom and friendly environment.
The journey of discovery continues as you travel over the coastal highway of the N2 via Swellendam, Mossel Bay to George which is nestled below the Outenique Mountains, and onto the lagoon town of Knsyna where you will stay overnight. (Approximate driving distance – 650kms (6h30))

Days 5 and 6 – Knysna

Spend the day exploring Knysna, one of the Southern Cape coast’s best known holiday destinations, situated between lush forests and the shores of a peaceful lagoon. There are many "must-see" activities and attractions, so much so that you will be spoilt for choice for things to do and sights to see - the most famous attraction is the ‘Heads’, two great sandstone cliffs guarding the mouth of the lagoon which connects the estuary with the sea. Our suggestion is that you take a ferry boat cruise across the lagoon to the Featherbed Nature Reserve and go for a stroll through the forest to enjoy a view of the ‘Heads’.

A little further along the coastline is the town of Plettenberg Bay and here we suggest you take a tour of Monkeyland, a sanctuary and home to numerous species of monkeys, followed by a tour of 'Birds of End', the largest free-flight walk-through aviary in the world. Other attractions you can choose from during your time in Knysna range from bungee jumping (216 metres) off the Bloukrans River Bridge, an ecological marine adventure with the opportunity to interact with the whales and dolphins, or simply lazing on the beach.

Day 7 - Knysna via Port Elizabeth to Kuzuko Lodge Wildlife Game Reserve

On this day you will start your journey by travelling through the dramatic coastal scenery of Tsitsikamma Forest, a natural area of immense beauty, before heading towards the Kuzuko Lodge Wildlife Game Reserve, via Port Elizabeth. Kuzuko Lodge is the third largest national park in South Africa. This 15,000 hectare lodge gives its guests a chance to see the “Big Five” as well as cheetahs, and you will have a chance to enjoy an open vehicle safari. (Approximate driving distance – 430kms (4h30))

Days 8 and 9 - Two Nights at the Kuzuko Lodge Wildlife Game Reserve

Today you will be enjoying early morning and afternoon game drives (a total of 4) in an open safari vehicle, with excellent opportunities for spotting the ‘Big Five’ and Cheetahs. You can also take a Cheetah walk, where you have fantastic opportunities to take up-close photos of the world’s fastest feline. In addition to unforgettable game viewing from open safari vehicles with qualified rangers, the Kuzuko Lodge offers a great range of activities including nature walks, bird watching, Khoisan cave exploration, team building activities, a children’s activity programme, a wellness Centre, a swimming pool and much more (on guests' own time). There will be 2 game drives each day on days 8 and 9 and a morning game drive on day 10.

Day 10 - Kuzuko Lodge Wildlife Game Reserve to Oudtshoorn

This morning the adventure kicks off early, as you will be enjoying a game drive before travelling towards Oudtshoorn, travelling back via Port Elizabeth, Knysna and George over the scenic Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn. Oudtshoorn is affectionately known as the ‘feather capital’, because of its large ostrich farming industry. (Approximate driving distance – 525kms (5h00))

Day 11 - Oudtshoorn

For this day - which will be spent at your own leisure - we suggest you visit an ostrich show farm for an informative tour, or explore the Cango Caves, one of the world’s greatest natural wonders.

Day 12 - Oudtshoorn to Stellenbosch

After breakfast you will be heading along ‘Route 62’, one of the most beautiful travel routes in South Africa, as well as one of the least known and least travelled ones. You will travel through the little towns of Calitzdorp, Barrydale, a Port Wine producing area, via Montaqu and Robertson before reaching the historic town of Stellenbosch. (Approximate driving distance – 400kms (5h00))

Day 13 - Stellenbosch / Depart Cape Town

Stellenbosch is the second oldest town in South Africa. This historic town features many Cape Dutch buildings and also has one of the oldest and largest universities in South Africa. Sample wines of merit produced in this area at several world famous wine farms, or stroll through the streets of Stellenbosch town browsing the many interesting curio shops, restaurants and pubs. In the afternoon return to Cape Town International where you will drop off your Vehicle and depart South Africa towards your onward journey. (Approximate driving distance – 35kms (40mins))
