The second largest city in Oman and the largest city in the Dhofar Provence, the coastal town of Salalah has a unique charm with its coconut groves and banana plantations growing and extending right to the water's edge. The region's beautiful beaches of white sands are a perfect heaven for swimmers and sea lovers while the rugged beauty of its fresh water springs, its fertile plains and tropical landscapes leave lasting memories on the visitor's mind.
Also known as the "perfume capital of Arabia" this city is a popular tourism destination due to the natural attractions of the nearby mountains and abundant frankincense trees as well as its historical ruins at Sumharam, an important port and the alleged resting place of Job and Nabi Imran, both important biblical figures in the Hebrew Bible and in Islam. The best time to visit is said to run from June to September when the monsoon rains have lashed the region turning it into a tropical paradise.
