Wahiba Wilderness - Full Day Safari

Duration: Full Day

wahiba wilderness - full day safari

Oman is one of the most intriguing nations on the Arabian Peninsula, renowned for its beautiful palm-fringed sandy beaches, green wadis (valley/oasis), dramatic gorges, spectacular waterfalls, rugged mountains and sweeping golden deserts. Combined with a unique and fascinating cultural and architectural heritage, and some of the most hospitable people in the world, it is no wonder that more and more visitors are venturing to this Middle Eastern jewel.

Enjoy exploring off the beaten track during your holiday in Oman. The country’s remote regions have much to offer, boasting perfect tranquillity and breathtaking scenery. This unique tour will take you deep into the desert to the beautiful Wahiba Sands in Oman’s eastern region. This vast sea of deep red-golden sand dunes is an awe-inspiring vision, rising up to 200 metres in height and stretching as far as the eye can see. Listen to the eerie stillness of this isolated wilderness and marvel at the ever-changing patterns of the dunes as the wind sweeps the sand to create beautiful shapes and designs. Get your camera ready to capture amazing colours, sights and scenery.

Wahibi Sands is also host to a rich diversity of desert flora and fauna, particularly in the extensive ghaf woodlands. Ghaf trees are a unique species that survive temperatures of 50°C in regions across Arabia and the Indian subcontinent. They provide vital shade and nesting habitats for birds, and their leaves are eaten by camels and goats. Other wildlife you may come across in the desert includes grey monitor lizards, sand cats and white-tailed mongoose.

Wahibi Sands is the traditional home of the desert dwelling Bedouins, so it is common to see them travelling through the desert on camels. You will get a chance to roam around a traditional Bedouin village, where you can visit a typical Bedouin home and mingle with the local community. Meet welcoming families and purchase traditional handicrafts from the local women. This trip gives you a fascinating insight into Bedouin culture.

In stark contrast, we will then move on to Wadi Bani Khalid. Located in the middle of the barren, dry mountains, this beautiful wadi has clear, deep blue pools of fresh water. Surrounded by palm trees, this tranquil oasis is an extremely welcoming respite after the desert heat. From here, you can also enjoy views of the small, picturesque villages embedded in the rugged mountains.

This unforgettable adventure in the desert wilderness will stay in your memory long after the holiday ends.
It is advisable to wear light comfortable clothing and walking shoes.
