Jordan for couples
Jordan is a great destination for a couples' holiday – from romantic nights sleeping out under the dazzling desert stars to relaxing spa breaks by the Dead Sea. Discover the mystery and magic of ancient wonders like the rock-cut city of Petra in the company of your loved one or spend some quality time together in a plush hotel by the Red Sea. The list of romantic spots for couples in Jordan is endless and there's no shortage of luxury hotels catering for people in love.
Relaxation and romance
There's no shortage of sultry spots in Jordan to relax and be pampered. For a start, it is home to the world's oldest natural spa destination – the Dead Sea – a haven of health, wellness and relaxation that's perfect for couples. The Movenpick Resort and Dead Sea Spa, for instance, is an idyllic 5-star retreat with a romantic atmosphere, alluring rooms and enchanting views over the world's lowest saltwater lake. Float together in the buoyant waters, beautify your bodies with Dead Sea mineral mud masks and get giddy in the oxygen-rich air, supposedly containing 8 per cent more than normal.
Alternatively, visit the bubbling hills around the Dead Sea, where hot springs gush from the ground with varying degrees of intensity. There are more than 100 hot and cold springs dotted in and around the valley, and at Hammamet Ma'in, the springs overflow into picturesque hyper-thermal waterfalls that have become a popular bathing spot. Visit these natural springs to luxuriate in the therapeutic waters with your partner and enjoy mud wraps, underwater massages and hydrotherapy.
There are some fantastic spa experiences to be had in the Jordanian capital of Amman too. For a traditional hammam, try Al-Pashas Turkish Bath, where you and your partner will be steamed, soaked and massaged into a state of pure bliss. For a Moroccan twist on the spa day, visit the Guinot Moroccan, which offers a fabulous pampering experience.
Candle-light enhances romance in the same way that seasoning improves food, so it's no surprise that top of the list for romantic and unique experiences in Jordan is the enchanting candle-lit vigil at Petra. Where better to take your loved one than to see one of the most magical places on earth illuminated at night with more than 1,800 candles. As darkness falls, the ancient city of Petra is illuminated with more than 1,800 candles creating a path from the majestic Treasury through the city, with the gentle sound of Bedouin music adding to the other-worldly experience.
The lost city's sights are almost as breathtaking in the sunlight, and adventurous couples will find plenty of mystical spots to share an amorous moment. For heart-stirring views, the steep climb to the monastery is more than worth the effort.
Head to Mount Nebo, where Moses is said to have once viewed the Promised Land, to share even more sacred sights with your partner. Taking in the view over the dramatic red, green and yellow landscape of the Jordan Rift Valley, the Dead Sea and beyond to the rolling hills of Jerusalem is a truly breathtaking moment.
Travelling through the dramatic lunar-like landscapes of Jordan's ‘Valley of the Moon' in the southern desert induces a sense of serenity and adventure that's difficult to beat. The region can be explored in a leisurely four-by-four or on a camel safari, for a more authentic adventure. Sleeping out under the stars in a Bedouin camp adds another romantic dimension to the experience, where you can gaze up at the galaxy in the comfort of each other's arms.
There's even more magic to be discovered under the sea in the Red Sea resort of Aqaba, where you and your partner can snorkel or dive below the waves and discover a whole new world together. Pick a beach-side hotel and explore the colourful corals and spectacular marine life from your own private beach. It's the ideal way to top-off a romantic trip to Jordan plus a great opportunity to top up your tan.
A couples holiday is all about relaxing and enjoying each other's company, with as little logistics as possible. Why not explore the breathtaking romantic landscapes of this fascinating country on a tour, and take all of the hassle out of your trip. A Discover Jordan – Superior Tour is a great 7-night option that includes visits to the Dead Sea and Petra, as well as a stop-off to appreciate the remarkable views of the Jordan Rift Valley.
You can also extend your stay to spend more quality time with your loved one in a deluxe hotel beside the therapeutic waters of the Red Sea. Alternatively, finish your adventure with a few extra days relaxing on a beach in the romantic Red Sea resort of Aqaba.
