Praslin and La Digue

Duration: Half Day

praslin and la digue

Located in the heart of the Indian Ocean, The Seychelles are some of the most beautiful islands in the world, boasting lush vegetation, rare flora and fauna, powdery white sandy beaches and clear azure waters. This stunning archipelago is made up of 115 granite and coral islands, stretching from the East coast of Africa to India, of which only 33 are inhabited. The main islands are largely made up of granite and are the only mid-oceanic granitic islands in the world. The rock formations are unique, providing a spectacular backdrop to the paradise beaches. This tour will take you by boat to the islands of Praslin and La Digue, two of the most beautiful granitic islands in the Seychelles.

Praslin is the second largest island in the Seychelles, renowned for its stunning natural beauty and charm. The island has a population of around 5,000 people, who make their living from farming, fishing or tourism. Aside from the island’s breathtaking, secluded beaches, much of Praslin’s tourism is centred around its unique attractions. Here you will find the World Heritage Site of Vallée de Mai, believed by some to be the original earthly paradise, the Garden of Eden. This extraordinary primeval palm forest hosts thousands of indigenous Coco de Mer palms, which produce the largest nuts in the world. This beautiful nature park is also the habitat for endemic wildlife and rare birds such as the Black Paradise Flycatcher and Fruit Pigeon.

We will then sail to the beautiful neighbouring island of La Digue. Step back in time to a peaceful land with few roads; where cars are restricted and the locals travel by bike and oxcarts. It is the fourth largest inhabited island of the Seychelles, and has a population of approximately 2,000 people. Full of charm and character, there is a wonderful, relaxed pace of life here and the locals are friendly and welcoming. One of the most photographed islands in the Seychelles, and one of the most visited destinations by holiday makers, La Digue is famous for its breathtaking paradise beach Anse Source d'Argent and its spectacular granite boulder, now a national monument. The island is protected by stunning coral reefs, which host an abundance of marine life, so it is also a popular destination for scuba diving and snorkeling.

After a delicious, authentic Creole lunch, you will visit the beautiful l'Union Estate where you can gain a fascinating insight into some of the Seychelles’ traditional local industries, including vanilla farming and coconut oil production. Visit a vanilla plantation and watch coconuts being turned to copra and then to oil. On the estate, you will also see an attractive French colonial-style Plantation House with landscaped gardens, a historic copra kiln, a museum and intriguing giant land tortoises.

This wonderful tour, combining culture, nature and pure relaxation, will undoubtedly be a highlight of your holiday in the Seychelles.
