La Digue Boat and Bike Tour

Duration: Full Day

la digue boat and bike tour

This tour will reveal the natural beauty, unique diversity and age-old traditions of one of the Seychelles’ most breathtaking islands. Lush tropical flora, paradise beaches, rare wildlife, unique landscapes and friendly people await you on the granitic island of La Digue, one of the 115 granitic and coral islands that make up the Seychelles archipelago in the heart of the Indian Ocean.

Your day trip will start on the clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean as you travel by a traditional schooner from Praslin's Baie Ste Anne jetty to the timeless island of La Digue. On your arrival, you will be greeted with freshly picked coconuts before being escorted by traditional ox-cart to the private L'Union Estate. Alternatively, you can venture off on your own voyage of discovery by bicycle, which is one of the best ways to explore the island’s natural treasures.

Set amongst lush hills, unique granite boulders, coconut palms and tropical vegetation, the beautiful L'Union Estate covers a third of La Digue. Here, you will visit the famous 'Emmanuelle' Plantation House, which was used in the famous film of the same name. You will also get a fascinating insight into one of the Seychelles’ traditional local industries by learning the secret of copra production, which was a major source of income for the Seychelles in the 19th century. Watch the succulent flesh of a coconut (copra) being dried in a traditional kiln, and learn how the copra is then made into coconut oil.

Your next visit will be to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Anse Source d'Argent. This small piece of paradise, boasting powdery white sands and crystal clear turquoise waters, fringed by lush palms and spectacular pink granite boulders, is one of the world's most photographed beaches. It has also previously been the film location for scenes in several well known films, including Pirates and Castaway, as well as television adverts for Bacardi, Bounty and Carling.

Lunch will be served at a one of the island’s traditional restaurants, where you will receive a warm welcome from the friendly local people. Following this, enjoy a scenic journey to the beaches of Grand Anse or Anse Severe, where you can spend the afternoon relaxing at leisure.

If you alternatively decide to explore by bicycle on your own island adventure, you may have the opportunity to make other exciting discoveries, including rare wildlife, picturesque colonial architecture, lush vanilla plantations and the small harbour town of La Passe. Whatever you decide to do, a tour of La Digue will be one of the many highlights of your holiday in the Seychelles.

You Could Travel list their must-see islands in the Seychelles

An archipelago of 115 islands, the Seychelles offers stunning natural beauty in the heart of the Indian Ocean. Mahe is the country’s largest and most populated island and offers visitors the most options. La Digue is the most serene and untouched, and Praslin, the second-largest island in the chain, is a bit of both: one side of the island offers seclusion while the other side offers a bit more civilization.
