2 Islands Melody

Duration: Full Day

2 islands melody

This fascinating tour of Praslin and La Digue, two of the most beautiful granitic islands in the Seychelles, will introduce you to the extraordinary diversity of this stunning archipelago, located in the heart of the Indian Ocean. As well as visiting famous landmarks, you will also discover rare wildlife and exotic indigenous plants, beautiful landscapes, stunning palm-lined beaches, unique granite rock formations and much more.

After your arrival on Praslin, the Seychelles' second largest island, you will be taken to the beautiful Vallee de Mai, home to the spectacular, indigenous Coco de Mer palm. Declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, this natural palm forest is believed by some to be the original site of the Garden of Eden.
The ancient Coco de Mer produces the largest seed in the world, and has been linked with Eve due to its unique form, shaped like a female pelvis. Philosophers once believed it was the fruit of the tree of knowledge, and that this species actually grew in the ocean rather than on land. Your tour guide will show you these fascinating nuts whilst revealing legends that have arisen from their suggestive shapes.

You will then be taken to Praslin’s Baie Ste Anne jetty, where you will board a traditional schooner. Enjoy the stunning views of the turquoise waters, lush hills and mountains as we depart to the tranquil island of La Digue, where you will be greeted with fresh coconuts to refresh you. Here, both time and traditions seem to have stood still; cars are limited and local people travel by foot, bicycle and oxcarts. There is wonderful, relaxed way of life here, so it is no surprise that this charming island is one of the most popular destinations in the Seychelles.

Enjoy a tour of L'Union Estate, which covers a third of La Digue Island, where you will learn the secrets of copra production in the copra factory. Copra is the dried meat, or kernel, of a coconut. Watch it drying in the traditional kiln, and enjoy the taste while it is still warm. You will then see how copra is made into coconut oil. This is a fascinating insight into one of the Seychelles’ traditional local industries.

Whilst you are here, you can also see giant land turtles and the beautiful colonial architecture of the old Plantation House, framed by picturesque landscaped gardens. A trip to La Digue wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Anse Source D'Argent. The pristine white sands, swaying palms, sparkling turquoise waters and magnificent granite boulders will no doubt take your breath way.

Savour the taste of a delicious Creole buffet lunch at Loutier Coco restaurant, and then enjoy an afternoon of pure relaxation on the paradise beach again before returning to Praslin and Mahé. For the adventurous, this excursion is also available by air.

You Could Travel list their must-see islands in the Seychelles

An archipelago of 115 islands, the Seychelles offers stunning natural beauty in the heart of the Indian Ocean. Mahe is the country’s largest and most populated island and offers visitors the most options. La Digue is the most serene and untouched, and Praslin, the second-largest island in the chain, is a bit of both: one side of the island offers seclusion while the other side offers a bit more civilization.
