Undersea Walk

Duration: Half Day

undersea walk

The beautiful island of Mauritius is renowned for its spectacular snorkeling and diving opportunities, boasting colourful coral reefs, beautiful seascapes and an abundance of marine life in its warm tropical waters. If you want to experience something unique, however, take an Undersea Walk along the powdery white sandy sea beds and discover a magical undersea world from a different perspective. This is an unforgettable adventure for both adults and children.

Exploring the beauty of the Indian Ocean is a must during your holiday in Mauritius and there are many ways to do so, but you may not have heard of walking under the sea. The only one of its kind in the Indian Ocean, this unique tour will enable you to do just that. Your head is encased inside a large glass dome helmet, which rests comfortably on your shoulders, whilst the rest of your body is submerged in the water. A constant supply of oxygen is supplied into the helmet through tubes from the boat, enabling you to breathe freely without the need for regulators, masks or other equipment. The weight of the helmet prevents you from floating to the surface, so you all you need to do is breathe and walk! Enjoy wonderful panoramic views of the underwater flora and fauna as you reach a depth of about three meters. Your tour will take place in a group of about six people in calm, shallow water.

Take a leisurely 20-minute stroll across the sandy ocean floor, through crystal clear emerald lagoons, and marvel at the beauty and diversity of this breathtaking natural aquarium. Explore vibrant coral reefs and watch hundreds of brightly-coloured tropical fish of all shapes and sizes encircling you. Bat fish, squirrel, angel fish, soldier fish, clown fish and large shoals of blacktongue unicorn fish are just a few of the species you will see. The fish are surprisingly tame so you will get a chance to feed them as they come close. Wait for a flurry of colour and movement as they surround you, snatching bread from your hands.

This is an amazing experience not to be missed. Other sea creatures such as giant moray eels, sea turtles, tiger sharks and white-tip sharks are likely to be spotted as well. The great thing about the Under Sea Walk is that you don’t have to have snorkeling or scuba diving experience and you don’t even have to be able to swim to enjoy it. Because your head stays completely dry in a self-contained area, you can also wear contact lenses and glasses if needed. Take a camera with you to capture the memories because this is a wonderful way to get up close to Mauritius’ exciting sea life. Walk under the sea the Mauritius way – this tour is a must for nature lovers.
