Tulum and Xel-ha

Duration: Half Day

tulum and xel-ha

On this fabulous tour you’ll get the perfect mix of historical discovery at Tulum combined with natural amazement at the world´s most famous open-sea aquarium! This excursion offers holidaymakers with the perfect combination of history and entertainment. You will start the day at the sacred Mayan city of Tulum as we embark on a discovery journey to explore the hidden wonders and treasures of this exceptional historical site. Later on you’ll be spending the rest of the day at Mexico’s most breathtaking natural aquarium at the outstanding Xel-Ha Natural Park.

We begin our excursion with a coach trip aboard a deluxe air conditioned bus. This comfortable 2 hour ride will take us to the magic site of Tulum. Upon your arrival here you will discover the city´s ancient Mayan port majestically sitting high on a bluff overlooking the sparkling Caribbean Sea and facing directly at the rising sun. A landscape to contemplate in admiration!

Take the time to discover one of the most historically rich sites in the Mayan World and the most famous in the region of Quintana Roo. Tulum is a walled city that became very important during the post-classic period between the years 1000-1500 A.D. A major archaeological site in the Maya´s extensive trade network, this majestic city is centred around a plaza or ceremonial square which was used by the ancient Mayan civilisation for rituals and ceremonies. Visit El Castillo, the most impressive building in Tulum and one that offers unique views of the ocean and the extensive coastline that goes on for miles in both directions. Another Tulum highlights include visiting The House of Columns, The Temple of the Descending God and The Temple of the Frescoes which displays a number of fascinatig murals whilst also being amongst the most important buildings in Tulum.

From here we head to an altogether very different destination as we set out to explore the natural water wonderland of Xel-Ha. This incredible open-sea natural park is in a location that was once used as a port by the Mayans due to its strategic position at one of the important crossroads for marine traffic. Its name being of Maya origin and meaning “water entrance” or “where the waters are born”, Xel-Ha enjoys a privileged geographic location as a breathtaking inlet of turquoise waters. According to an ancient legend this amazing place was created by the Mayan gods who combined their love and wisdom to create what they deemed to be the most marvellous place on Earth.

The main attraction of this park is precisely its condition as a cove or inlet. Its unique geographic condition means that the combination of sea water with fresh subterranean currents of sweet water make for a bio diverse natural aquarium that is home to hundreds of marine species and the brightest coloured tropical fish. Here you will be able to spend a few hours snorkelling inside Xel-Ha´s open sea aquariums or even try some scuba diving to reach greater depths. But besides all the marine adventures that await you at the aquarium, yet another one of Xel-Ha´s main attractions is undoubtedly its Mayan ruins. Although most of them are still buried under the surrounding jungle, the parts that are still visible pose a very interesting sight to look at. You´ll also have the chance to explore the Lowlands at the adjacent tropical forest that dominates the park with over 350 species.

Here at Xel-Ha you´ll also enjoy food and drinks at all restaurants. And at the end of this double adventure you´ll be returning to your hotel in great comfort in our deluxe coaches.
