la paz waterfall gardens

For those looking for a nature holiday in Costa Rica, the La Paz Waterfall Gardens will open your eyes to stunning local wildlife in some of the most beautiful, natural surroundings you will find.

Both a nature park and wildlife refuge, the La Paz Waterfall Gardens have an altitude ranging from 4,300 feet (1,320 meters) to 5,000 feet (1,540 meters), which provides an ideal climate for both cloud and rainforest. It is no wonder that the wonderfully diverse wildlife flourishes here. Get your camera ready for the spectacular range of butterflies in the world's largest butterfly observatory. Here you will find ten species of the most beautiful and colourful butterflies in Costa Rica. Discover hundreds of hummingbirds flying about in their own unique garden, and learn about the 24 different sub-species that live there, their feeding habits and life spans.

Take a stroll through the exotic Orchid Garden and into the Ranario, a living frog museum that houses a collection of the most famous frog species in Central America, including the red-eyed tree frog, flying frog, poison dart frog and green leaf frog. The Serpentarium is home to thirty different species of snakes, which are found throughout Costa Rica. Throughout the gardens you will also find monkeys, rescued wild cats, a trout lake and a huge open aviary, where hundreds of different bird species fly freely.

Follow the extensive paved trails around the gardens, which will take you along the La Paz River and around the majestic waterfalls, which include five in total. Take advantage of the viewing platforms, which allow visitors to experience and photograph the forest from some of the best and most exciting perspectives.

Bright, colourful birds, butterflies, plants and flowers; waterfalls, rivers and lush tropical rainforest: La Paz Waterfall Gardens is everything you ever imagined Costa Rica to be - and more.
