A City Tour of San José, Costa Rica’s capital, is a great starting point to your holiday in this fascinatingly diverse country. Immerse yourself in the rich Costa Rican history and culture of this Spanish colonial city as you explore beautiful sites, galleries, museums and architecture.

This sightseeing tour will guide you through the main residential areas and commercial district of the city, which was founded in 1737 and has a current population of one million. The historic National Theatre, an architectural masterpiece, is one of the highlights of the tour, which you can reach by walking along the Paseo Colón. Other fascinating landmarks include the National Museum, the Supreme Court of Justice, Sabana Park Metropolitan Park and the central commercial district.

Eating out and socialising is a big part of the locals’ (Ticos) lives, so San José has an excellent variety of bars and restaurants. It's easy to find something to suit most tastes and budgets. El Pueblo is the hub of San José’s nightlife, catering both for tourists and locals with plenty of restaurants, bars and nightclubs to extend your night into the early hours.

This cosmopolitan city is also great for shopping. Browse the local markets, which are colourful and vibrant, and the unique handicraft shops. Before you leave, a brief stop will also allow time for souvenir shopping at the artisan workshops and beautiful craft shops of Moravia.
