Getting Around
Koh Samui is a fairly compact island with only a few main roads. Getting around on foot is usually your best option for sightseeing. Hiring a motorbike is popular with many tourists and makes navigating around Koh Samui relatively fuss free.
When to Visit
December to March are the best times to visit Koh Samui when the relatively cooler temperatures are less stifling, there is little chance of rain and you will enjoy 8 hours of sun. October and November represent the rainy season but with temperatures reaching upwards of 30°C even during the fresher months, you can confidently book flights to Koh Samui for most times of the year.
Top Beaches
Chaweng Beach is Koh Samui’s top beach destination, attracting holidaymakers with its dazzling ivory white sands, breathtaking scenery and lively nightlife. Lamai Beach offers a similar blend of fun and relaxation, whilst Bophut entices with its charm as one of the oldest beaches in Koh Samui. You can also head to Maenam Beach to enjoy island life away from the crowds, with its characterful bungalow accommodation and beautiful views of Koh Phangan.
Shopping in Koh Samui
The large Central Festival Samui shopping centre is Koh Samui’s best shopping location, filled with countless options from designer labels to brilliant bargains as good as anything you’ll find in Bangkok. Lamai Walking Street is also recommended with its aromatic street food options, handmade gifts and clothing, while Lamai Night Plaza is a great way to experience one of Koh Samui’s captivating Night Markets.
Nightlife
Koh Samui is renowned for its nightlife, most notably its colourful Full Moon parties. Taking place – as the name suggests – with each monthly full moon, revellers flock to the southernmost tip of Koh Phangan to dance the night away on the soft sands of this heavenly island. Top Attractions
Angthong National Marine Park comprises of 42 islands with high rising limestone karsts and white sand beaches. Guided diving and snorkeling is available to explore the stunning marine life. The Big Buddha is perhaps the most iconic site on the island overlooking Koh Samui. The 12m-high Buddha is impressive enough on its own as well as being a great spot to overlook the island. Koh Tao – meaning Turtle Island – is a picture perfect location with its turquoise lagoon waters to discover its famous inhabitants.
Zip-lining Adventures
Combine adventure with a unique way of seeing this beautiful island by zip-lining through Koh Samui's canopy. Fly through the stunning rainforest with views of the forest floor below, waterfalls ahead and you may even catch a little exotic wildlife right alongside you!
