The Veranda Resort under renovation as it aims to become one of Turks and Caicos' top luxury resorts

Management at the Veranda Resort in the Turks and Caicos have taken the tough decision to close during the crucial winter months for renovations despite the fact that this is a peak period for travellers booking Turks and Caicos holidays. The resort, recently acquired by Sandals Resorts International, will be brought up to the Sandals brand's high standards and will be rebranded as part of the firm's nearby Beaches Turks & Caicos luxury resort.

Popularity of Turks and Caicos holidays growing as more tourists head to the island every year

The Turks and Caicos Director of Tourism, Ralph Higgs, recently announced that a record breaking number of travellers booked Turks and Caicos holidays in 2011- a real feat for the Caribbean island in light of the global economic downturn and the negative effects that the Air Passenger Duty has had on arrival figures in other popular Caribbean destinations. Mr Higgs noted that an increase in the number of direct flights to Turks and Caicos has been a contributor to the uptake in visitors.
