Moon Palace Punta Cana breaks ground in Dominican Republic

Palace Resorts has announced it has broken ground on a new resort in the Caribbean. The luxury hotel group will add the new beachfront Moon Palace Punta Cana to its collection of properties in the region.

Located in the popular Punta Cana region in the Dominican Republic, the Moon Palace Punta Cana will have 2,149 guest rooms and suites over 18 floors. Almost 70 percent of the guest rooms at the $600 million will boat stunning views of the turquoise sea.

During their stay, guests will be able to enjoy access to a wide range of luxury facilities and services. These include a Greg Norman-designed 18-hole golf course, eight swimming pools, 17 restaurants, seven bars, a nightclub, a lavish spa, a casino, a fun water park, a chic beach club and convention and meeting space.

Francisco Javier Garcia, the Dominican Republic Tourism Minister, who attended the ground-breaking ceremony at the resort, stated:

“All this is the product of the confidence that we as a country generate among investors.”

“That has made us the undisputed leader of tourists that visit the Caribbean.”

The new hotel will be run under sustainable and environmentally friendly operations, and the local area’s natural resources will be protected, including the mangroves. The resort will implement the use of renewable energy and water treatment systems, and will use local produce through farms and fishing to keep menus in the restaurants full of local, seasonal dishes.

The new luxury all-inclusive resort will create more than 4,000 jobs, of which 95 percent will go to local Dominicans. This will be the hotel group’s first Palace Resorts property in the Dominican Republic. The company currently operates 11 resorts across the Mexican Caribbean and in Jamaica.

Punta Cana is one of the Dominican Republic’s most popular tourist destinations. Home to white sand beaches, including the award-winning Bavaro Beach, the region sits on the easternmost point of the island nation. Tourists can enjoy snorkelling, scuba diving and kayaking in turquoise waters, trips to the natural theme park Scape Park, jungle tours, and zip lining. Holidaymakers can also enjoy trips to eco-park attractions including the Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park which spans 1,500 acres of tropical land and has 12 freshwater lagoons and dense mangrove forests, and the Manati Park with its lively shows and performances including sea lion tricks and dancing horses.
