Hilton Worldwide to convert Playa Hotels and Resorts properties in Mexico and Caribbean

Hilton Worldwide has announced that it has expanded its partnership with Playa Hotels and Resorts. The global hotel group will convert several Playa properties in the Caribbean and Mexico to the Hilton brand, but they will still be managed by Playa.

Hilton will start by converting the Royal Playa del Carmen in Mexico and Dreams La Romana in the Dominican Republic. The properties will be renovated and reflagged as Hilton hotels. A further eight all-inclusive hotels and resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico will be transformed by 2025.

"All-inclusive resorts allow a broader array of customers at different price points to enjoy a reasonable value proposition."

Explained Christopher Nassetta, CEO and President of Hilton during a press conference at the Royal Playa del Carmen resort recently. Mr Nassetta continued:

"All-inclusive have been fast-growing, but it has not been a mainstream segment. We're pretty confident that by taking our soon-to-be 100 million Hilton Honours members and partnering with Playa, we're going to open it up and make it a much more mainstream experience."

Refurbishments at the Royal Playa del Carmen and Dreams La Romana will begin next month, and will include the renovation of guest rooms, public spaces and restaurants. The work is expected to be completed by late 2019. The resort is currently owned by Playa Resorts and managed by AMResorts, owner of the Dreams brand.

"It's amazing to us how small a percentage of guests, particularly U.S. guests, have experienced all-inclusive resorts.”

Commented Bruce Wardinski, CEO and Chairman of Playa Resorts. He also explained:

“We're excited to market our products to Hilton guests that have probably been curious about all-inclusive, but perhaps haven't been willing or brave enough to try it.”

Hilton and Playa Resorts are currently in partnership with the all-inclusive Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa in Jamaica. Hilton has 11 all-inclusive partnership resorts across the world including properties in emerging markets like Egypt, Turkey and Bulgaria.

Hilton Worldwide has more than 100 hotels and resorts across Latin America. The hotel group has over 50 luxury properties operating in Mexico. Playa Resorts owns and manages 20 resorts across Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
